The article seems to be an exaggeration for effect. But the probable real effect will be to actually attract more treasure hunters!
I visited the castle in July 2015, for the first time. Though it was a very rushed visit, I did not notice much evidence of recent treasure hunters having been at work, and saw none at all inside the actual castle (the area behind the walls is completely overgrown). There is evidence of plenty of past plundering: for example almost all of the masonry at the base of the inner face of the castle wall has been stolen, undermining the surviving parts higher up. Some of the graves in the Muslim cemetery beside the abandoned settlement outside the castle had been targeted and I noticed that a number of the gravestones had been broken into pieces, but there was not extensive digging.
