Hello JH

You are getting into a highly opinionated arena.
I have strong feelings in one direction. Others will have opinions as strong the other way.

I think RED is retarded. So what if there is a tiny bit of red? Many will disagree with me.

I had a 1680 I bought new in 1974 and kept for about 30 years. Started off loving it and after a whole lot of years got tired of the cylcops. What an ugly thing at 3 o'clock that destroys the design.

Got rid of it for a gilt 5513. Over time got a slew of submariners, from 5508 to several gilt 5513s including a mint underline. Also have several 5512s, including a 62 chapter ring.

Nothing with a date.

You have some nice watches lined up. Pick the one that you like, the one that talks to you.
Forget what everyone else says, including me.

The real sub is no date. Is a tool watch.
Don't to the mistake of buying the 1680. If you want the date get a GMT !
In my opinion..

There are many trusted sellers on VRF, but I am biased since I've bought through Andrew. He gets great pieces and is really easy to work with. As many have said...You are buying The Seller and Buy what YOU like. Regarding your budget, if you can I would spend the extra money on a watch you are going to love and be patient for the right one to come along. You will also have peace of mind when you buy from a reliable seller.

the dial patina color is very nice, the case near unpolished.

Why do so many of these have the pearl missing on the insert?

The ads don't mention the missing pearl. Does this detract from the value? Do they fall out easier?

What's up with those missing pearls?

Everywhere I go I see pearls, pearls, pearls. All over the grass, the street, in my car. Just Everywhere.

They definitely fall out.
Easily replaced.

Does not come close to the importance of the dial, otherwise condition and provenance.
