Err...here's sharing some pictures taken...
whilst Orchi works in the mines...

Bauxite or AI(OH)3 is most abundant mineral on Earth...
n it is primarily the raw source of Aluminium metal...

http://www.google.com.my/url?sa=t&sourc ... BA&cad=rja

Finding Bauxite isn't difficult...
as it can be easily found on considerably shallow soil...
in countries close to the Equator...

On the most recent working trip to the Bauxite mines...
located remotely in the islands of Riau/Indonesia...
Orchi was wearing this ME Military 1680...

After many hours of boat rides in rough sea n weather...
Orchi gets behind the wheel of this pickup for a 2 hour rough journey to the remote mines...

This would be when the going really gets tough...
(Psssssst...btw Buddy Arthur...
this 4x4 pickup has a 3 litre 200hp 352Nm torque...
16 Valves Double Overhead Cams...
commonrail Diesel injection variable geometry turbocharged intercooler engine...
instead of using Push-Rod truck engine...
Something the US automaker could only dream of these days...LOL!)

Guess who's the bloke operating a CAT D7 in middle of night...
bulldozing to clear a passage for a convoy of dump trucks...
laden with Bauxite...?

What you see is what Orchi gets to eat...almost daily in a canteen at camp site.
No beef or chicken...just plenty of fish...vegetables...n chillies!

The nearest town from campsite...looks like this...

n like many remote parts of the world...
Toyota is the KING of the muddy dirt roads...

Or maybe Orchi should drive n ride on...err...
these instead...next time...LOL!

This would be best mosquitoes repellent...
the Kretek cigarette that is...LOL!

That's it for now...
Later soon Orchi will share more pictures showing...
how Bauxite is mined...

Thanks for watching...

Best regards
Orchi.

... that an Explorer would have been more appropriate? Don't you have a very nice 1655 or have you sold it?

Of course any Rolex Oyster is a perfect companion on such a trip. I enjoyed reading your post, and I enjoy seeing a fine watch being used.

Best,

Err...briefly this would be a typical camp site...
which has field office/laboratory/workshop/canteen...
storage yard/accommodation etc etc.

This is one of the excavation sites...
after the site has been explored to contain rich deposits...
of Bauxite...

This would be the centre of a typical Bauxite mines...
where Bauxite would be dumped into Trommels for the washing...
n separation process...

Huge amount of water is required during the washing n separation processes...
rushing tons of muddy water into separate dams n reservoirs...
to contain the sediment of mud...

One of the biggest challenges posed...
is to ensure that the banks of the dam reservoirs...
do not erode or worst collapse...Ooops this does not look alright...LOL!

When the mud subsides...
cleaner water is then channeled back to a large pond...
where a couple of high powered water pumps run to pump up...
roughly 4000 gallons of water per minute to the Trommels...
on higher grounds...

At the same time...after separation process...
whilst tons of Bauxite in good sizes would be transported...
to stockpiles...
the other tons of Bauxite in bigger sizes which are normally not favorable...
would be loaded n transported to a crushing plant...
where these larger Bauxite would be crushed to acceptable sizes...

A typical Bauxite stockpile would look like this...
where roughly upto 100,000 tons of Bauxite awaits the arrival of barges...
for loading n transfer onto larger vessels anchored off the coast of these remote islands...

However...the toughest challenges faced so far...
for Orchi is to repair the ONLY muddy link stretching upto 20kms...
between the Trommel plants...
n the stockpiles n those nearest to the Jetty...

Daily about 40-50 dump trucks would have to ply this muddy route...
to transport upto 4000tons of the washed Bauxite...

Currently at the start of the Monsoon season here...
heavy torrential rainy spells have washed off...flooded n damaged...
most parts of the route...

n who do they call...?? Not a Bomoh...

http://www.google.com.my/url?sa=t&sourc ... oQ&cad=rja

They called Orchi for help...
Anyone seen a near naked Orchi before...?? LOL!(just kidding)

Now that's what it is...

Oh btw...to those that had received late response from Orchi by emails recently...
a thousand apologies ya...

Hmmmmm...maybe on the coming trip Orchi might wanna take a dip...
in the muddy pool...with the 6538BC...LOL!

Thanks for watching...

Best regards
Orchi.
