Hi All - I am trying to define the approx serial range when the last gilt dial 5513s were built.
I have a matte 1.76 mil 5513 with II67 on the inner case back. I have seen 1.5 mil gilts from 1966.
Did any gilt dials make it to the 1.7 mil range?
Thanks
Russ

You will hear different opinions here, but for me, gilt dials era ends with 4 Quarter 1966, so not higher than 1,4 Million Serial.
Probably there are some legit 1,5 Million watches, it is the transitional time and it could be possible, i would feel better with
lower serial !

Hope this helps and all the best
Werner

My one owner pretty original matt dial is a UK 1.506m watch caseback III.66, its probably one of the earliest legit matt dials around

I've seen gilt dials as late as 1.56mil...& I've seen matte(correct) dials as early as 1.58mil

As the 1.58m matte dial watches would tie in with the Proclamation 3761 January 1967 where the duties on imported watches were reduced dramatically and Matte dial 5513 pieces in the US may recognise importation after the reduced duty came into effect. Pure speculation on my part but if I was Rolex USA I wouldn't be importing too many watches prior to the reduction in duties, could be entirely co-incidental but I just wonder.

I have a III 66 case back in the 1.46m range with gilt "Bart" dial - I had heard these were the last gilt dials, but who can really be sure given the vagaries of manufacturing back in those days!
