Anybody have any thoughts on why this Gretzky rookie went so high. Is the market up or were people gambling it would regrade as a PSA 9?

corner quality....I doubt it is a PSA 9. Maybe it's some newbie, who read the lengthy description of Wayne's career in the seller's marketing spiel and just had to have it!

Looks like 4 different bidders pushed the price past $1500 on up to $1800. Normally when this happens it's 2 bidders fighting it out.

The value of his rookie has to go up eventually. It has been pretty static for the past decade. That is a big jump over the typical sales price though.

I was following this auction as well and was dumb founded by the result as these cards usually go just a little over a grand. The card has since been re listed so I questioned him as to why the card is being auctioned off again and he responded that the purchaser of the card could not pay for all of the cards he had won. Hmmm

If you check the feedback for the first auction both buyer and seller gave positive feedback on the sale.

I emailed the seller about this. He says both were deadbeat bidders (and what can you do besides cancel the sale?? No neutral or negative feedback can be left)... $1800 is pretty high for an 8, but I just sold mine on eBay for $1550, so it's not THAT crazy... The 50/50 centered OPC Gretzky's will get $1500 every time, if you're patient.
