Can anybody help me to understand this? -

There is an item on ebay -
Item number: 300034611159

It says in the description that the book value is over $800 but Beckett lists this photo as $40 item.

Where is the catch?

I think that is marketing....I can't see why it would be that much, especially when I don't think these photos are even dated....I would rather have a PSA 8 mid 50's card of the Rocket for that money

Any beehive experts?

The current Charlton Guide lists it at $450 in Ex and $750 in 'Ex-Mt.' I believe it is his earliest card. If SGC or PSA graded Beehives it would be worth cosniderably more. If you think they might grade these at some point in the future it might be worth taking a shot at.

I've picked up a number of HOF Beehives from group I at pretty low costs. The set does not draw the heavy bidding of other pre war but I'm guessing a lot of folks will go after this one.

That was exactly my point - why Charlton lists it at $750 while Beckett only at $40. Obviously the photo listed on ebay with the reserve price and it's pretty high.

I doubt there is a grading company who does large format photos.

Mark, if you ever think to sell your Bee Hives series I, please let me know.

I think psa does grade beehives now. They have those oversized holders for T3's. I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple graded beehives on ebay. Jim.

Since we're talking about oversized cards, do you guys think that issues like 1939 and 1940 O-Pee-Chee will get some interest once some more cards are graded?

I don't think that too many people know or the pops would be a bit higher. I just picked up this lot, maybe I will send in the whole bunch just to get the ball rolling.

Very cool - I'll look harder as those things come up for auction...
