THIS POST IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ALL GULF WAR (1990-1991) VETERANS!

The Federal Register on September 26th announced the Meeting “Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses” that is to be conducted in October.

The purpose of the Committee Meeting is to provide advice and make recommendations to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on proposed research studies, research plans, and research strategies relating to the health consequences of military service in the Southwest Asia theater of operations during the Gulf War in 1990-1991.

The meeting will be held on October 30, 2017, in Room 230 at 810 Vermont Avenue NW., Washington, DC, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. (Eastern). All sessions will be open to the public, and for interested parties who cannot attend in person, there is a toll-free telephone number (800) 767-1750; access code 56978#.

The meeting will include time reserved for public comments in the afternoon. A sign-up sheet for 5-minute comments will be available at the meeting. Individuals who wish to address the Committee may submit a 1-2 page summary of their comments for inclusion in the official meeting record. Members of the public may also submit written statements for the Committee's review by email.

See the Notice on the Federal Register at this link for contact/comment/email information.

There is no control over the public comments  part. It is to let the veterans to tell us what is going on. It does help us some; but veterans need to know the researchers on the committee do not know anything about claims law. I and one other know a lot about the law for claims.
There is a section after the committee meeting for the veterans that does come to talk about their problems with some top VA officials.  I hope to see some you at this meeting.

I'll be there.

This link says that the VA will have a "Listening Session" period for Gulf War Veterans immediately after the meeting from 3:30-5:00. Now THAT should be good.

There was very few veterans at the "listening Session" and that is a sad thing. I hear so many veterans say how they would like to tell the va something, then they do not. 2 in the room a 2 on the phone line. not counting the veterans that are a part of the RAC.

I'm glad I made the effort to get there. It was well worth it. Such a great opportunity to speak directly to the VA and the Research Committee. I was disappointed that more veterans didn't come.

It was great to meet Dr. Baraniuk in person too. He was there, and I don't even think he is on the committee.  I was impressed by that. I'm glad we have someone like him working on our behalf.

I'll be sure to be at the events near DC.
