3 Flight Leader 100th Sqn
USS Tomcat NCC 62114

USS Tomcat NCC 62114
Location: Captain's Ready Room
After his uneventful flight to the Tomcat Master Warrant Officer Jordan Tanaka made his way from the Flight Deck, where he was met by a Marine who escorted him to where the Captain's Aide sat then left. Lucy Armitage directed the MWO into her Captain's Office.
She was checking her files when her Yeoman notified her that the New Pilot was about to enter, putting down the Padd she looked up as Lucy let the MWO enter, like a good soldier and mainly due to his training he came to attention and saluted. As she was now wearing Fleet Colours Jasmine nodded politely "at ease Mister Tanaka, your complete file has not caught up with you yet, so please take a seat and tell me how you came to be in the 95th Rifles?" She asked.
"Thank you, ma'am." The pilot took a seat. His mannerisms, both verbal and physical, were a constant balance between gentle and alert. Even 'at ease', his posture always retained an element of formality. Yet, while maintaining that balance, he could easily betray a subtle hint of a smile or pensive frown. Unlike the blank, unsettling stare of a Vulcan, his slight expressions turned sterile conversations into engaging, personal interactions. "The quick answer is, my wife asked me to reactivate my commission."
She observed the pilot closely and nodded when he mentioned about his wife volunteering him for active service. "Any reason as to why your wife would do this?
Having seen the common reaction to his words, he gave a nod with a slight smile. "The reason is not familial. There is a complicated political situation in our colony. Detractors against the ruling family maneuvered a legal trap to prevent the heir from taking her post. The most qualified colonists are drafted to participate in Starfleet. She would have been included with that group, if nobody more qualified could be found."
"Indeed, I see from those grey sides that you are no novice to front-line service? Will you have any resentment to working on the Tomcat by being away from your family for so long? She asked.
Again, he gave a polite nod, "I am a veteran, I have extensive frontier and combat experience, and I'm not quite too old... yet. I volunteered. Or rather, my wife volunteered me." He then reassured, "I agree with her on the importance. Please understand, Commander. While I share the universal reluctance of being away from family, there is no resentment in my heart for serving here."
Nodding her understanding "On our last mission into the Hydarasnz System I lost a lot of people, will a knowledge of a regular crew turnover prevent you from doing your job here? Also most of the crew on this ship are younger than yourself, except for the Vulcan's we have on the ship, but all the Human's or Human Alien Hybrids are younger than yourself, will you be able to take orders from the Officers?" She asked.
"Long ago, I was the young man giving orders to older pilots in my squadron." He gave a restful nod, "Now, it is my turn."
"Admirable, Mr. Tanaka, now I have a question for you, well more than one, but we will take it one at a time" She paused. "Outside of fighters and shuttles, what ships have you wanted to fly?" She asked.
A bit of a gleam appeared in his eye, "Whatever I'm needed to fly, ma'am. I've piloted a diversity of vehicles in my time. Captured enemy craft, small dropships, land-air mechs, mercenary stock, civilian,... I've almost forgotten how many kinds there have been. Heavy assault fighters are my forte, though."
Looking at the "old Warrior" intently "I mean what capital ships have you always wanted to fly, something that is not a small craft, for example a Galaxy Class type ship etc?" She asked.
Taken aback, Jordan sat back with raised brows. "Oh, I see. I'm sorry, ma'am. I misunderstood." He then folded his hands and explained, "Ship's helmsman was actually my very first assignment. To be honest, the experience was frustrating. Perhaps it was youth, or perhaps it was just me. I was too anxious to execute maneuvers and too impatient to await orders to do so. After a few high-G maneuvers which stressed our ship's inertial compensators, my commanding officer heartily encouraged my transfer to fighter wing. That's when I acquired my call sign, 'Wild Horse'." Jordan gestured a 'but there's more' hand, "I don't think that's a fitting name, Commander. My tactics might be aggressive, but they tend to be conservative." He sighed with raised brow, "Unfortunately, it's very difficult to shake a call-sign, once earned." He then refocused, "But to answer your question, I don't harbor any personal ambitions for helming large ships.
Looking at him with a smile "Well Mr. Tanaka after you have settled in speak to Marine Captain Jelan Lemoris. He flies the Tomcat on times and have him take you though the flight basics of the Akira class and take you through the ships quirks. You see most of my crew must have some knowledge of various stations on the bridge, you will see I have more Marine Bridge Officers than Fleet. I was once a Marine Colonel, then I came to Pegasus Fleet and had to drop down some ranks and change departments from Marine to Fleet.
Now while I still Command the 95th Rifles, of which you are part of, I have to concern myself mostly with Ship Command duties. But you may want to speak to Major Donovan at some point, she is Leader of Bravo Unit, all of those are Chosen Men who wear the white cord of courage at the base of their tunic shoulders" She said indicating the white stripe running along the bottom of her tunics shoulders.
"I'll go wherever I'm needed, ma'am."
Nodding in agreement “Got it, well Mister Tanaka welcome to the Tomcat, I will let you get settled in, then I suggest you meet with your Squadron CO First Lieutenant Joseph Tabor, then when he is not on duty speak with Marine Captain Jelan Lemoris and ask him to begin training you to fly the Tomcat on the holodeck” She said standing and holding out her hand.
Tanaka followed his early officer's training. When a ranking officer begins to stand, then you be the first one on your feet. He clasped her hand, "Very good, Commander."
Smiling as she gave him a firm handshake and watched him leave her Ready Room, she inhaled as Lucy came in as Tanaka was leaving.
“Yes Lucy?” She asked.
“Lieutenant Jg Luna Clark is waiting outside for you” The Yeoman said.
“Thank You Lucy, please send her in” Jasmine said and her Yeoman nodded and left oO Lieutenant Jg Huh, her time back on her homeworld must have been productive Oo, She thought.
