A "Salley Ship" wasn't a ship, it was a method of releasing a ship that had run aground or was stuck in the muddy bottom of the waterway.

Sally the ship really works. When we were broached in Vietnam we had sally the ship and that helped us get off of the beach. It took a while to get her rocking running back and forth across the main deck with all hands but it worked. Our stern anchor broke while trying to back off of the beach in heavy weather. LST 1148

A few years ago Des Moines had an excursion vessel on the Des Moines River. Stuck on a sandbar they called for help. In the meatime on the vessel was a local belly dancing troupe, who entertained everyone. Their shimmying and shaking rocked it loose and the ships captain canceled assistance. This isn't a joke - I recall reading about it in the Des Moines Register the next day. In the meantime here is their website on the story - how amazing the ways that women have been instrumental with ships...

Oh, by the way, Chris, when you need to have your Geo Metro turned over, maybe you should contact them...

The link I originally posted didn't work, so this will have to be copied and pasted into your web browser...

I'll keep those gals in mind. All my gas drained outta my Geo when the twister blew it over but we put it (Geo) in the Captain's pickup and took it to the gas station. That Captain's a nice guy. He only charged me a 12-pack!

Maybe the Gator Gals could substitute? Perhaps on a beginners level we could practice on a stuck LCVP before tackling the job of shimmying the Metro over...

I don't know you yet like I know those other trouble makers. But I'm afraid that both my Geo and myself would end up in the river if I were to enlist the help of Seabat, Jo, Ann and maybe Pat. Pat doesn't sound as mean as those other three but I don't really know her yet. But thanks for the offer.

There is a wide spread problem going on with the Insight Cable system in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. Perhaps many that normally would be adding to the conversation are off the net and screaming their messages for long distance communication.
