Any news from Mobile? My dad (Lauren Whiting) is on the ship and wondering if there are any updates to departure, fuel loading etc. What have you heard?

<font face="comic sans ms" color=navy size=4>Mostly everybody's just busy getting ready to go. Nothing particular dramatic or newsworthy. The ship is being moved today to the State Dock for fueling and taking on stores. The captain seems pretty pleased with the way things are going.

relayed the same information you did, WebSkipper.

They are doing ship's work and making all preparations for sailing. The excitement is running high...and grins appear on every face. Everyone is well and anxious to go.

Hope they know how many of us are here cheering them on!

Thought I would take a few minutes to write since I 'jumped ship' last night (had to take my dog Sydney and my truck to Pensacola for safe keeping during the cruise) so I have access to the internet for an hour or so before heading back to the ship.
Everything is coming along fine, as webskipper said - ship is moving to downtown Mobile this morning where she can take on fuel/water/water ballast since the channel is deeper. Lots of little 'finish up' chores to do and trying to 'spruce up' a little. Today will be more of the same, practice drills, and 'securing' stuff for sea. Monday will be final Coast Guard inspection - mostly abandon ship, man overboard, fire and first-aid drills. Lost our shore power on Saturday morning when a local transformer blew out - but our snipes made the shift to ship's power very quickly.
Almost all crew are aboard now (still one or two late arrivals), and we are all working hard (mostly to avoid getting fat from all the good chow).
