So please have a great Christmas, enjoy your family's remember out troops past and present in your prayers. Looking forward to 2017 and all the great things that will happen with the LST-325 because of your hard work. Take care dear friends. SARGE
I received the card from you, Sarge. Very nice....thanks. And yes we've achieved a lot in 2016. We sailed two days for the reenactment during the Shriners fest in June. For those of you who aren't familiar, this involves sailing the ship and two Higgins boats with troops in them, invading the beach near the Evansville museum. Two of the 40mm bofors are utilized as well as smoke screen. This was our third year and it gets bigger every year. It is the #1 act during the weekend unless the Blue Angels are in town. And all of this is possible because of our volunteer crew. Sarge plays a big part in the planning of this event. And planning starts in January.
Also in June, we had a film crew from The Weapon Hunter TV series at the ship filming for 2 1/2 days. This episode was about Weapons of D-Day. A lot of filming was done on the ship including the firing of the aft dual 40mm gun. Our Higgins boats were also in action invading the nearby beach with Germans on the beach shooting their propane powered machine gun at our troops. This episode will air on the Smithsonian Channel sometime in February or March.
Then there was the annual river trip which included Vicksburg, MS. and Cape Girardeau, MO. I don't have to tell anyone how much effort goes into planning and completing this mission every year. Kudos to our crew and all the volunteers who make this possible.
Yes, we have much to be thankful for this holiday season. So everyone relax and enjoy the holidays. And get ready to do it all again in 2017!
