Hello!

Just found this website tonight and am in heaven! It has been a lifelong dream of mine to board an LST.

My Dad served for 4 1/2 years in WWII ... most of the time on LST 351 ... from the time she left for service until she was turned over to the Royal Navy. My most cherished possession is one of the flags that flew on her ... torn and tattered, and full of shrapnel holes.

Is this true that LST 325 is coming to Indiana in October? If so, I will be there! I'm in Minnesota. I'll keep watching this site for more info ... would love to see her coming up the river!

Thank you for restoring her! It has been one of my goals in life to find an LST somewhere and be able to walk her deck. I'll bring the flag!

I'm in Indiana a few hours up from Evansville but plan on being down there to help out so hope to meet you there. That's great that you have the flag from your Dad's ship, what a treasure. My Dad was on an aircraft carrier & I'm trying to research for more information now. Welcome to the LST site & to Evansville to see the LST after she arrives.

It will be nice to meet another daughter of a LST'er... and I know you'll be welcomed. This is the nicest group of people you could ever become acquainted with...

We do have a proud heritage from our Navy fathers, don't we?

I am new to this site and just starting further research on Dad's LSTs ... but this site has already made me feel like family!

As long as you are near there, do you know if there are any ship reunions being planned? I would love to even meet just one gallant gent that served with my Dad. The sad part is that I know many of them may be gone. Dad passed away in 1977 ... far too early. I sure hope there will be a groundswell to use this historic visit of beautiful LST in all her glory (most of us have only seen them in photos and news reels) and use this as a chance to meet any remaining men who served on any LST. Maybe this is already being planned ... let me know if you hear of anything!

Thanks again! I'll look for you in Evansville!

I am already feeling like I am discovering family I never knew here! And as I went to post this, I noticed it has already changed the date ahead of time to September 4 ... today would have been my folks' 58th wedding anniversary. My Dad passed in 1977 ... and Mom just this year in March. But at least for this anniversary, they are finally together again.

Let's work for more reunions at the LST 325 arrival in Evansville!

Thanks for making me feel at home!

There's usually LSTers (&/or their families) on the ship or around it. Many bring their families to show them the type ship there served on. There's some of the crew who brought her back from Greece that still volunteer as well. When we were in Boston for the turnaround of the Constitution there were 6 LST 325 vets on board and quite a few other vets (LST & other ships) who hadn't been on an LST since they left the Navy maybe even 60 yrs ago. That was quite exciting & interesting to talk to them. The LST 325 is bringing us all a chance to see history, make friends & find out more about our Dads and others. I'm sure you will love it. By the way, the ship is still in Mobile & is scheduled to arrive in Evansville on 10/1. We're all hoping that Katrina won't affect her arrival time. Stay tuned here to keep up on what is going on. There is a USS Oriskany ship reunion planned for the October 3rd with about 200 members having reservations. There may be more scheduled. Perhaps someone else will post more info for you here.

met this past weekend at Dayton Ohio for their fall gathering. You would be thrilled at the interest and ongoing reservations for their trip to Evansville. Many, after seeing photos and videos this past weekend will be making reservations in the upcoming week or two (I think they're close to two busloads now). I'm sure it's the same with the other groups as well.

Evansville is showing the "Last of the Class"....with class! Thank you...for the Ohio group and all other veterans and their families. I personally appreciate the care and consideration you show them...they deserve it!
