Check out the Smithsonian Channel at 9:00 pm EST on Sunday for D-Day, Detonation, featuring our LST. Than afterwards, America's Secret D-Day Disaster. I believe we are in that show also, about Slapton Sands.

LST-325 took part in the 28 April 1944 Exercise Tiger mission to get ready for the 6 June 1944 D-day invasion. This secret practice mission was set to help train our invasion troop for the D-day Operation Overlord landing at Normandy. This mission took place at Lyme Bay England. The Germans got direction on our radio traffic between our ships and sent SnelBoots to attack the ship involved in this mission, They sunk 2 LST and damage one, we lost over 800 ameican in this attack and it was kept secret till way after WW II was over. A few years ago a British TV company did a story about this mission using LST-325 as part of the story. We used some local WW II reenactors in this mission. SAREGE

Sam and Helen Thomas of the Ohio LST/Amphibs? Sam was at Slapton Sands. He doesn't speak of it = never has, really. He would prefer to forget what happened. The snippets he has mentioned will remain private, but it is enough to know how horrendous it was. I missed your post (something to do with retirement of someone), but I will go back and see if I can find it on Youtube or the Smithsonian Channel.
