Does someone have information as to when the ARL's and the other LST's that were converted to Repair ships got the GM 12V-278 installed? Navsource list them as having the 12V-567. From what I have read the 567 series was in production about 4 years longer than the 278 series engines.

I would think when they converted an lst to an ARL I have an ARL book I'll take a look and see if they ref that. Maybe they all didn't have the same horse under the hood.

I think the 16-278A were used in the big T's LST 1156 through LST 1176 and the 12-278 were for gensets on electric drive craft.

thanks for the info Bob and Wally. The only reengine of an LST that I have read about was the WOOD Cty LST 1178. After 10 years of service the Cooper Bessmers were removed and replaced with Fairbanks Morse. Get this it was decommisioned in 1972 and went to the cuttere in 2002. The F-M's were only used for the last 2 years of the ships service.
