I've been asked a few times why no dock work is yet happening at Marina Pointe (mostly by Evansville folks).
The components of the dock are being built and modified in other cities and states. A large barge platform is being modified in Paducah, Kentucky. The ramps (gangways) are being built in Wisconsin. By the way, these ramps are fourteen feet wide and the slope will be gentle; this will allow golf carts to be used to transport wheelchair bound folks to the deck of the ship. The ticket/gift shop barge work is being done in Evansville. Captain Jornlin and Lois were here in Evansville last week inspecting that work and giving us suggestions.
All of this work is underway and has been for several weeks.
When these various components are finished, they can be installed at Marina Pointe within a two week time period.
The target date for completion of the dock is Sept. 15.
As usual, the people of Evansville who are working on this project are doing a great job! Thanks so much for the update Mike.
Reading your 'SitRep' it's easy to see that you've all taken a great deal of time to think about all types of issues - access for the elderly, secure facilities, sturdy platforms. And how about the Captain and Mrs. Jornlin? Just securing the ship from the East Coast voyage...they head to Evansville to visit.
Evansville is preparing to give LST 325 quite the homecoming!
