Credit to @Wayfarer for this original thread Simulation of carving and inscribing

Came across this old thread and the concept just made me smile. From it I learned that carving used to exist in game.
However it was the inscription idea which attracted me.
Being able "create" your story to leave behind (even though when you die, the world dies) is just cool RP.

That said, I'm going to start tinkering with this in the hope of making something unique.

D@mn already see a typo in the <the> screenshot, I must have been scared when I wrote it down :o

If this sounds interesting to you please leave ideas of the types of things you may want to save for posterity.
Eg: (Warning!) Telling those kids to stay off your lawn!
----------------------------------------------------------------
Small game signs

Use marker for line you wish to create

Placed marker

----------------------------------------------------------------
Adding plant signs and quickly realised the visibility of signs over distance could be improved.
I've switched to the sun graphic to possibly make signs standout more against the background and be more visible from distance.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Trimmed the edges of the exclamation point graphic

----------------------------------------------------------------
After looking at it on my map for a while I think I've settled on this indicator graphic.
It seems to stand out on most terrain while not over powering the map as the ! icon seemed to be.

Thanks for looking

*Edit*
I just came across this thread today, credit @rglory Map marker player can change
Though I never saw it, I obviously agree it's a great idea ;)

I don't have any ideas yet. But I like your proposal. Maybe could we open a wiki page to gather ideas ?

It appears that my greater plans along this line have run a foul. Some of the long stories have made the game unstable.
Some rethinking and additional testing will be required, to find a blend that works and serves the intention.

And if each object had a piece of sentence, and their meaning would take sence, the way the player stacks them ? (such as runes)

For example one would be a verb ("saw"), another an adjective ("plenty"), and another a word ("reinders")
Thus players could create more diversified messages.

Where there any runes in Finland ? If so, we could create some entries corresponding to them in the ingame encyclopedia with some pictures.

EDIT : yes, there were some drum symbols : http://www.thuleia.com/shamandrum.html

Good idea, I like the sound of this!

I've always felt there should be some way to memorialise fallen friends, important events etc.

Maybe the exclamation-mark icon might be more appropriate?

I've added a download to the first post and I will post the code here for now.
The mod is set to run from the default lumber menu so no additional menus are required.
Timbercraft is used for making charcoal and carpentry for all other tasks.
All tasks are low effort and untimed. The indicator graphic is in the spot for the hunting
horn, in the attached graphics file only the hunting horn is changed, and it is stored one space
to the left so that it can be restored. The original graphic file use could overwrite other graphic mod file(s).
It is not required to use the graphic file, the sign will appear as a hunting horn.

Code: Select all

With the future of signage coming in the game, I've let this download expire.
The code is still above if you'd like to see or use this, and you can always message me :D

Thanks Sami for the wonderful balance of upcoming features being added to such a wonderful world.
