OS was the better team for most of the early going, likely out chancing the Stars by about a two to one ration in the first. However, Derek General stood on his head.

About midway through the second, the Stars found their legs and stormed back to take the lead.

The third was evenly played with the intensity cranked up a notch The Stars took the lead with 6:12 left when Garrett Ball went the length of the floor to score a pretty one.

The story of the game, however, was General. He made an absolutely unreal save with 1:45 left diving across the crease to take away an empty net on a 2-on-1."

Looks like 2 evenly matched teams. Not surprisingly the D was ahead of the O. Some huge hits good pace good goaltending at both ends. Both teams had some really good individual goals Ball for Stars Kaz for OS. Good start for both Lacrosse is back.

A little late, but what the hey.

I post them here before I go through the final editing process, so if you see any errors let me know.

By me,
Mohawk Stars head coach Cam Bomberry says he wants the other teams in the Ontario Lacrosse association senior B loop to keep taking the Stars for granted.

Pegged by many close observes of the sport to finish in last, the Stars surprised Owen Sound 8-7 Saturday at the Gaylord Powless Arena in Ohsweken. It was the first game of the senior B schedule for both teams.

“They were likely psyched to start with us because everyone seems to have us at the bottom of the pack,” Bomberry said. “But, the guys have been working hard and were better tonight.”

Bomberry said that the Stars were full marks for the win. After starting a little slow, the Stars controlled most of the play, he said.

Indeed, the Stars seemed to gain momentum as the game went on after getting themselves in a bit of penalty trouble early on. Stars goaltender Derek General had a strong game, keeping things close during the multitude of penalty kills.

“I think maybe the guys were a bit too excited to start the game,” General said. “They were a bit too eager to go out and hit someone—that’s what got them on trouble.”

With the game tied at seven, the Stars took the lead for good on a pretty end-to-end rush by Garrett Ball. However, Owen Sound didn’t make things easy. With 1:45 left, the Woodsmen broke in two-on-one only to be robbed by General.

The goaltender dove to his left to take away what looked like a sure goal.

After the game, General was modest.

“I was just lucky,” he said. “I just threw myself and hoped.”

Bomberry was more forthcoming in his praise.

“Derek is a veteran goalie and he did a great job for us tonight.”
