They got called for the illegal pads there goalie has been wearing all year had their goalie suspended for the semi's...tensions were high in the arena after that call, parents in the stands going at it.

She:kon!

So you are saying it is "gutless" to call the cheaters out when it counts?

There is no way any goalie or coach can possibly be unaware of the goalie specifications, especially before the most important tournament of the year; and - if they are - then they are fully to blame for being ignorant of the rules. Better luck next year, read up on the actual rules. However, if they ~willingly~ went ahead with illegal equipment and put their team in a vulnerable position in the most important tournament of the year, then there is something wrong with them and they deserved to be called on it and face the consequences.

Smart coaches make sure their player's equipment - especially the goaltender equipment - is legal and compliant. There is no excuse for it not to be. Smart coaches also call illegal equipment on the opposition when they notice it since those rules are 'part of the game.'

Not "gutless," but "smart."

You can kindof see both sides of it right?

Because on the one side its stupid too win because of a technicality like that but on the other side you don't wanna lose because a goalie is using illegal equipment and you can't score...

...when its all said and done rules are rules.

if the strategy is to win calling an infraction vs the goalies during game your not winning

wouldnt it be better for all involved to inform the team pregame that if they dont adhere to rules then you will call them on it

pretty sure its the right way to win

It's kind of implied that all teams should follow the rules. That's why we have a Rule Book.

Your own fault if you choose to use illegal equipment.
My son is a Midget goalie for Sarnia and we had to buy him
new uppers this year to make sure he was legal.
Not an easy thing for me but I was not going to put
the team in a bad spot because we did not follow the rules.
Goalies and Goalie parents know the score probably not
so much the coaches, but if your kid is going to be a goalie
you better know the rules, these ones have been coming for 3 years
no excuse.
Roll the dice if you want but you get what you get.
