AP took a lot of stupid penalties and Miron looked less than stellar. Reed scored on Miron from his own crease. Congrats to the Merchants on a strong defensive game and the first win of the year.

Norwood Nitro and Brooklin Merchants only undefeated teams!

Shenanigans:

A lot of minor stuff behind the backs of the refs. A whack here, a whack there, some helmets on the floor. Near the end of the game the two 77s, David Campbell and Tim O'Brien had a discussion on who should be wearing 77 but nothing came of it. Maybe they made arrangements for the next meeting.

Notes:

Round one of the Battle of Durham goes to the Merchants. The Merchants utilized the smaller floor to their advantage by not giving the Rock players any room to maneuver.

Merchants ran into penalty trouble in the second period, but Scott Wylie came up with some big saves, particularly on Mike Daley when he was in all alone at the mid point of the second period.

Brad Reed's goal was scored from his own crease on a long outlet pass while killing off a penalty..

This was an entertaining game for the fans played at high intensity.

And for those that asked, I took my wife for Thai cuisine on Saturday night with my Friday's 50/50 winnings.

I think the difference in the game was hustle, Brooklin worked hard all over the floor while A/P seemed satisfied beating Wellington Friday night. I like Brooklin's team right now, only problem being I think they may be stagnant ie; not improve over the year, where other teams will. A/P is rumoured to be getting both Veltman's back as well as Pat Campbell and you never know who else will show up.

Full marks to Brooklin on the win. Looking forward to game 2 of the best of Durham series.
