She:kon!

In honour of the return of Paul Whiteside's 'The Original Thistles Lacrosse History' to the Internet, I offer a link to 'A History of Lacrosse in Canada Prior to 1914' by Thomas George Vellathottam which was a "...thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts, Faculty of Physical Education" which was submitted in 1968.

This work is often cited by other lacrosse historians and while not as detailed or focused as Whiteside, Vennum,  Fisher or Mitchell et al, it does provide a good overview of the history of the game and it's development in Canada to the beginning of World War I.   Despite being over 40 years, the information contained in this work is considered historically up to date even though it isn't considered canon.

The link is from www.oregonpdf.org which is a "a non-profit foundation located in Eugene, Oregon, cooperates with colleges and universities throughout the world to make available graduate <strong>dissertations and theses</strong> in areas related to health and performance."  While I am not sure of the legal copyright issues surrounding the publishing of this paper on the Internet, I am providing the link as a fair dealing service towards research, private study, criticism, review or news reporting.  If it turns out that there is a problem with copyright, I will have to remove the link.

Until then enjoy the book, it is quite interesting, and happy researching!

She:kon!. Greetings.

Please double-check the link to the pre-1914 reference material. It doesn't seem to work for me.

Thank you.

http://www.oregonpdf.org/print-script.c ... 201437.pdf

That is the direct link.  When I check the properties on the link itself, it comes up weird.  Try the direct link above and let me know if this works.

I can download the file from both IE 8 & 9 and Chrome from both work and home.   You could also go here:  http://www.oregonpdf.org/search.cfm  search for the word lacrosse and scroll and find the link.  Perhaps you could get someone else to try to get it or see if their browser works.

IE9 was useless until I turned on compatibility view. That might help.
