As spring approaches and registration is in full swing, a few reminders.

For all OMFLL members, be reminded that the player residency policy per the OLA Constitution is in effect for 2009 participants.

As per the OMFLL Operating Policy para 11. Team Registration and Player eligibility

g) Ontario Minor Field Lacrosse League will abide by the OLA Regulation MR II Registrations and Regulation MR-III Releases.

This means a few things

First, a player can only be released from their resident OMFLL Centre to the NEXT CLOSEST OMFLL CENTRE. Accordingly, there are to be no flow through releases. You can be released from your resident Centre, to the next closest Centre only.

Second, any player that registers outside of the OLA regulations will be deemed ineligible to play for the 2009 season.

Residency regulations, whether you agree with them or not...........are part of our rules.

If you have any questions, you can contact myself or your Assistant East/West Commissioner.

Drawman,

I would prefer not to answer, as I do not speak for the U 19 League. It is my understanding that U 19 introduced residency for 2009, but this should be confirmed from their representative.

A residency rule was proposed and passed at the OJMFLL (U19) meeting on Friday.
You can contact me if you need/want the details.

I think a new residency rule for OJMFLL warrants being posted here. In plain language if possible.

A player must return back to his home centre and obtain a release to play for their out of town club.

Laxref23,

The OMFLL policy on residency is based strictly on the OLA Constitution rules as per our operating policy.

U-19 and the OMFLL do not have the exact same participant Centres. Therefore, geographical proximity considerations are different when considering "next closest Centre".

The principles and application of the rule are the same, being based on the OLA Consitution. However "next closest centre" considerations are quite different with the two Leagues.
