The Port Alberni Junior Hockey Society is extending its deadline to buy the local Junior A hockey team
Today the society arrived at it original deadline with $234,000 raised to date. The society has decided to extend their campaign based on the current status of negotiations.
PAJHS chairman Darren DeLuca is encouraged by the tremendous public support the society has received over the past 30 days and stressed the need to continue the fundraising effort. He said that the group has made significant strides forward in ongoing negotiations and is now working to gain 100% ownership of the team, not just majority shareholder status.
"The June 1 deadline was set with the goal of presenting a sale agreement at the BCHL Board of Governors AGM on June 6, however, we are now aware that a change in ownership can be reviewed by the league in a different forum in the coming weeks," DeLuca said.
Society directors stress that the current ownership group continues to focus on the season ahead, with hockey operations personnel actively recruiting on ice talent and business support
"By all accounts, the Bulldogs are going to be a dynamic team for the 2012 season and PAJHS is excited about the possibilities for the coming year," DeLuca said.
Individuals interested in donating can do so at Port Alberni City Hall, PAJHS Offices at 3003 Fourth Ave., RBC on Third Avenue, Mollon Tyler Mollon or at the Bulldogs office.
