Ethan arrived at the lavishly decorated founder's hall with his date. He managed to get dressed in his black and red tuxedo although now that he'd arrived he kind of felt like leaving. One of the girls in class that liked him had asked him hours ago if he had a date and he said he didn't, so he accepted when she suggested that they go together. He'd felt a lot better earlier in the evening, but even though he wasn't feeling all that well currently he managed to hold it together. He didn't want to let his date down because she kind of reminded him a little of himself. It sounded like a weird thing to think about at first but his last relationship before he was turned started out something like this. He was the one that was nervous when he asked his last crush as a human, a girl named Marie out on a date. He was pleasantly surprised when she said yes to him. Ethan figured that she would turn him down, but she didn't. He'd promised that he would give her a night that she wouldn't forget, just like he promised his current date, who wore a dark red silk gown, which he could tell was a bit unusual for her. She looked beautiful however. If anyone tried to hurt her, they'd have him to deal with.

He found himself overly protective of her, a girl he barely knew for some reason. He had no idea that it was due to the virus that Esther had contaminated the humans with that ran through their blood, which he'd been feeding on like most of the other vampires in town. It had slowly been working it's way through his system and whatever was left of his immune system was trying to fight it off, a battle it was winning until now. He was still holding it together pretty well though, but for how much longer would remain to be seen. Ethan's date went to speak to some of her friends. Ethan looked around and noticed that a lot of the town was in attendance. He saw quite a few of the other students at the ball, including Elena Gilbert. It was amazing how much she looked like Katherine. He heard a few of the other students talking about her and how her parents had died in a car accident a few months earlier, confirming that this wasn't the same girl that he fed on a couple of campers with when he arrived in town. She wasn't even a vampire. Ethan didn't know about the existence of doppelgangers as it were in Elena's case however, figuring that Katherine was at least a distant ancestor of Elena. Ethan wondered if he had any children if he would eventually find himself with a descendant that looked like a twin. He was still pretty much a young vampire so there was a lot that he didn't know about things just yet.

He saw a few other students and faculty as well as people in town that he hadn't met yet. When he looked back at the entrance he saw that Vie had arrived with a date. She looked georgeous, like his date a lot different than normal. Ethan planned on saying hello a little bit later. He didn't want to interrupt Vie's time with her date. He also felt a little odd, but decided to brush it off. He was going to make it through the night for his date's sake. Ethan had promised her an unforgetful night after all.

As Vie and her date were talking, Ethan looked around the ballroom. He had a feeling that someone was watching him. As he looked through the crowd Ethan swore that he saw a man standing not too far away. He stood in between a few couples that were dancing. The man appeared to be in his mid to late 30s, he wore a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. He felt a sense of uneasiness upon seeing the man, probably because nobody else in the ballroom appeared to see him. He was pretty sure of it because the man probably would have been escorted out, or at least been spoken to for being the only person there that wasn't formally dressed for the ball. All the man did was look at Ethan with a cold stare. He had a mind to approach the man and ask him what the hell he was looking at when he heard a familiar voice talking to him. It was his friend Violetta who had noticed that he had arrived and she came over to say hi, although she left her date trailing behind a little.

Ethan wondered about the timing of her statement about Crazy People attending the ball. A few seconds ago he could have sworn that he saw someone staring at him, but he was gone about a second after Vie started talking to him. Nobody was there, they never were. Ethan had taken a drink of punch a few moments earlier and wondered if anyone spiked it. He wasn't aware of the irony of his thoughts. “Nice to see some other sane people here too. As you can see I couldn't turn down a pretty face, although that face is now nowhere to be seen.” If his date were around Ethan would have introduced her to Vie but He saw that she went to the bathroom with a couple of her friends, figuring that she would return to him when she was ready. If she was gone too long however, he was going to go look. Ethan didn't want her to get sh...... he just wanted to make sure that she was ok. He decided to focus on Vie, pushing what he thought he just saw out of his mind, probably, no definitely against his better judgement. “I'm sure she'll make herself known again soon. You look great by the way, your date is a lucky man.” Ethan said, wondering whether or not her date was going to come over and introduce himself. He didn't recognize her date from school, but he realized he probably would not have since he looked a couple of years older than they did. Ethan assumed that it was someone she probably knew from her personal life, or someone that she just recently met. Either way he wanted to focus on them and not on what had just happened to him.

Right as he wondered whether or not her date was coming over, he'd come over and introduced himself as Alexander. He'd grabbed a couple of drinks before coming over to meet them. "I'm Ethan, and it's fine." He said, offering his hand to shake Alexander's. Ethan really didn't want to have a drink, he probably wouldn't get away with getting one since he still looked seventeen, that and he was already seeing things. Having a drink probably would have only made things worse.

Ethan watched and listened to Alexander and Vie talk. He laughed when she said something about 10 year olds and his redhead classmate that didn't know the difference between Shakespeare and Hemingway. Any literate person knew that Shakespeare lived in the 1500s and Ernest Hemingway lived in the 1900s. Ethan had read some of his books in class and had even heard news of his suicide. It happened in July of 1961, and Ethan would have been in his early 20s and if things went the right way he would have been in college, but unfortunately for him things hadn't gone the right way. He was murdered in the summer of 1954 shortly after his parents by his mother's crazed ex and his gang of boneheaded racists. He was only undead today thanks to someone that made sure he had vampire blood in his system sometime before he was shot in the chest and left for dead in the woods of rural Virginia. He still had no idea who made sure he had the blood in his system or how they even managed to get him to drink it. “No, it's not her. If she would have asked I don't know what I would have done.” Ethan's date was a girl named Laurie Fisher, from their 1st period english class so they both probably knew of her. Thankfully, she wasn't that redhead because she was brunette and was a lot smarter. Ethan didn't know which redhead he meant, but he wondered if it was that girl named Cherie, at least he knew that her name was something like that.

Ethan heard Alexander ask how long he had been in Mystic Falls “I've only lived in town for a couple of months. I have family here.” Of course he didn't tell them the real reason that he was in town. Someone knew what Ethan did after he was turned to the four men that almost murdered his entire family, but they had yet to show themselves or leave any more signs or clues. Ever since he arrived in town it had been quiet for the most part. “I'm actually from Grove Hill, so I guess you could say I'm a native virginian” While trying to make normal conversation, Ethan saw a little boy that appeared to be running around. He wondered who would let a 6 year old little boy into an event like this. It seemed like the age limit would have been 15+, given the amount of his fellow students that were there. It looked like he was running throughout the crowd, hiding behind some of the other people that were there. There was also something familiar about the little boy. He was blonde, had blue eyes, and he wore a striped shirt and a pair of shorts. He did seem a little out of place. Ethan figured that someone must have made an exception and let the boy come. Maybe whoever bought him couldn't find a babysitter, it was none of his business. As quickly as the boy was there, he disappeared.“So, what about you? I already know Vie's story, how long have you been a native of Mystic Falls?” Ethan wasn't really sure if Alexander was a native but it was a healthy guess. He waited for either of them to answer, still thinking about the kid that he just saw.
