I read this morning that Mr. Donald Malarkey passed away.

May he rest in peace

It's damn depressing. I haven't even told my 13 year-old son about it. We have been on a "Band of brothers" kick the past week or so; watching all the episodes back to back.

Even more depressing is that the vets are basically gone. Most of us can remember when they held pertinent positions in our daily lives. They were our mail-men and our school teachers. Our politicians and corporate heads. Our film and TV actors.

American civilization is truly a different thing altogether since they have left the scene. I wasn't ready for it and I don't like it.

Not sure if it is the right place to say this Ken, but there are other generations of veterans who are still about and have served their country with pride and bled for their brother comrades, in Vietnam and in later conflicts. These old warriors also deserve our respect and thanks. Sadly those who went into battle in SE Asia in the 1960's are often derided and scorned because of the Government they fought for. But they fought for your flag and country and as such they are the pillars on which your nation stands. Give them the respect as you did their forefathers.
