m-5 Computer ligh disk

Does anyone know how this effect was created.
I am thinking its a mabye mylar and a motor projected on a peice of plexi.
any ideas.

I wasn't there of course, but I'd say a hollow metal cylinder (like a tin can), with slits cut in it, and gels taped over them. Put lightbulb inside, mount to post, and rotate by hand or with motor. Light shoots through slits and onto diffused round screen.

thats an interesting idea. I just read somewhere that the warp core effect from Star Trek the motion picture - was done with spinning mylar and lasers.

Does anyone know if the effect might have been a film loop projection instead of a light trick.

I doesn't look to me like it was, and there has never been any reports of that technique beings used during TOS (excepting The Cage appearing on the briefing room screen in The Menagerie)

Thanks I put a small disco ball toy / with a black disk of transparency w clear shapes on top.
