Hard to believe this team is still only one game out. The Tigers still have a chance to win this divisionand if they do, Jim will beback and DD will be all over his jock in the press how he kept the team in it despite the inconsistencies that they plan to address in the off season. I dont see Jim walking away from a team that has Miggy-Prince,Vmart in the middle.

I agree and I quite frankly hope Leyland does return. He's one of the best managers in baseball and the Tigers would be hard pressed to upgrade the position.

Wherever Valverde lands next season, you can bet Xanax and Tums sales will skyrocket. I've been following the Tigers since 1955 and he's the only Tiger pitcher I refuse to watch pitch.

What a horrible day of baseball. This team may yet back into the postseason but with so many players going into the tank that might not be pleasant, what with a closer who can't get two outs without giving up a run, a 2nd baseman who is clueless and a bunch of middle of the order hitters who make PJ Walters look like Greg Maddux.

I agree with Gary. In a way, I hope the Tigers miss the postseason. They'll just embarrass themselves on national TV.

I, too, have lost some faith in Dombrowski as GM. But remember who preceded him. It could be worse.

I keep reminding myself that between 1989 and 2005 we never had the opportunity to experiance a division race. But things like dropped fly balls and an offense that wastes a pitching perforances, like in last nights game, drive me nuts.

John Kuhnlein wrote:This will be an interesting off season for DD. For the first time in 8 years, he will hire a manager. Smokey is out of moves in Detroit; he must certainly know that by now. DD has to rebuild the IF and OF. We need the keystone combo plus both corner outfielders. The mere fact that Valverde will be somebody else's problem instantly makes this a better team. I think DD will have learned anew that no team that cannot play defense can win. That said, if DD does it right, the new skipper could head into ST in 2013 with a powerful team ready to contend. This near miss should make those players that return hungry for success. JK

Near miss? What near miss? The Germans have yet to bomb Pearl Harbor for gosh sakes.

The only near miss now is the one where the Tigers win the division handily. Crikey a win tonite an they're tied for first.

Shoot they can still win the division by 8 games.

I basically agree Gary, meaningful games in September is all that can be asked for.

Bump - Opened this game thread out of idle curiosity and got a kick out of reading, how at game 152, so many of us were disgusted with this team that would become AL Champions. Start reading at page 9. Some good ole posters in there.
