BY SARAH N. LYNCH, Daily Record -- A Montville man with an alleged link to the Genovese crime family and a resemblance to Elvis Presley was arrested along with roughly 50 other suspects on Thursday for their alleged roles in a large-scale gambling and money-laundering operation, the Bergen County prosecutor said. Robert D'Alessio, 52, who resides in the Rachel Garden Apartment complex in Montville and also goes by the names "Elvis"and "Larry," is the accused ringleader of the alleged bookmaking operation. Through this pyramid-style business, agents working under his direction each ran illegal gambling packages on his behalf, reeling in more than $1 million per week in illegal wagers, according to Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli during a news conference on Thursday at the Bergen County Courthouse. 'Jailhouse Rock' -- The gambling pyramid, which was dubbed by law enforcement as "Operation Jailhouse Rock," is one of the largest illegal bookmaking operations run by a single individual to ever be uncovered by authorities in New Jersey, Molinelli said. "What makes this case somewhat unique ... is that the very first person we locked onto during the investigation is the person at the top of the pyramid, and that's Robert D'Alessio, also known as Elvis," said Molinelli, motioning to a photo depicting D'Alessio with long sideburns and a pompadour. Robert D'Alessio collected various types of Elvis Presley memorabilia and he even impersonated him, dressing up like him and styling his hair like the King, the prosecutor said. Most of his neighbors in the Rachel Garden apartments on Rachel Terrace said they did not know him well. Sometimes he could be seen sitting in his car smoking a cigarette and talking on his cell phone. See Daily Record.
