This is my first high number R158 Home Defense card. It is card #131 ... just 23 to go.

Does anyone know how the promotion mentioned on this Shelby's Prize Bubble Gum wrapper worked? What did one do with the letters on the wrapper? In a thread from Sept 13, 2008, Todd mentioned a prize given to the dealer for selling Shelby Gum. I couldn't get the pics to load. Since this wrapper mentions "Save Wrappers. Valluable! See Storekeeper" I thought a dealer prize might be what he gave customers for wrappers.

Picked these up at an auction. They are longer than my scanner.

most guides put a '32 date to these but after a little research i think '38 is more accurate .

They can't be as early as 1932, since one of them has Snow White and Dopey from the 1937 film.

The "Mickey Mouse Weekly" was a beautiful British tabloid-sized publication started in 1936. It ran well into the 1950s. The artwork for the magazine was not done by the US Disney artists. And to support the previous post, definitely post-1937 because "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" wasn't released in the UK until February 1938.

Might there have been an Australian version of the UK magazine? "Snow White" was released in Australia on June 2, 1938.

Here's a scan of an issue from 1936.

Hi Bill & Rick ,

I think the price guides based their date around the time MM annuals were published in the UK (1930 or so) but after a little research it's easy to see that the cards weren't given away until late intothe 1930's .

Thanks for your input .

edited to add ;

Rick , just for info ,these weren't issued in Australia or with the MMW but with candy bars in the UK .
Probably drawn by Wilfred Haughton .
