Just acquired a few more of these which are on the way. Can find zero documentation. I now have 27 of the 40 (according to the back of the cards). Have always found these in either Australia or New Zealand, so guessing either may be the origin of the cards.

Have both volumes of the "Australian & New Zealand Index" and if these are listed, I cannot find them.

Cards measure 28 x 60 mm.

The cards that I have show racing cars, airplanes, boats, and a very large petrol storage tank!

I have pictured the back of card 12 and the front of card 13.

Would like to know: (1) Company producing cards, (2) date of production, and (3) a checklist would be nice; I may not live long enough to complete, as I have only 27 of the 40 and looking for about 30 years!

All the cards I have are black and white. Based on information on card backs I have, GUESSING 1931 for the date.

Jon.

Hi Jon,

Wouldn't these cards likely be British as they refer to Pound Sterling for the prize?

Terry - I have no clue; however, various cards refer to prizes and speeds in the USA, and other countries, so would guess that the pounds reference was because the Wakefield Trophy was British. Again, just a guess.

Did you check all of the UK reference books? Maybe they are in one of them.

Terry - I honestly don't know; I don't have all the British reference books.

I have been through the 5 volume "World Trade Index" page by page, and while I could have missed them, I don't think so.

I checked the "British Trade Index" under both Anonymous and Speedies, and turned up nothing.

Also, Google only found a few on Ebay that I have already, and the vendor knows no more about the set than I. I did message him.

Really believe if we ever find documentation, they will turn up to be Australian. There are some other partially documented Australian sets that are VERY scarce that I am chasing.

John

If you would like to contact me on davidelliott201@optusnet.com.au, I may be able to help you out. At the least I can provide a full list of the cards.

Mark - thank you. In which book did you find the reference?

I haven't all the cards to read, and until I do (if I ever do), won't be able to make a complete comment; but I seriously doubt they were released after 1945.

The cards that have dates all point to 1931; and if I had to guess, I would guess they were printed by Shell Oil in Australia. Many of the cards read as "advertising" for Shell Oil.

Again, thank you.

Jon.
