Welcome to our new forum, Sand Sculptures. The purpose of this Forum is to provide place for a group of poets to work together on short-term poetry challenges. This can take the form of working on specific forms (e.g., sonnet, villanelle, ghazal, blues) or types of poems (e.g., ode, elegy), techniques and figures of speech (e.g.., list poem, anaphora, apostrophe, personification, bouts-rimés), or working from a model. There are many ways to use model poems; more on that later.

Let it be understood that we’re posting drafts, not well worked-over poems for in-depth critique. But let us also share our knowledge and experience to help one another in the form of suggestions and tips. As the name suggests, this is a place to play and experiment. Bring your shovels and cups!

The possibilities are endless and what we do is up to the people who choose to participate. If you’re interested, please suggest at least five such forms or concepts that you’d like to work on in the Forms & Techniques thread below. Put each one in a separate reply.

If you find a poem that you think might serve as a good model, put the poem or a link to it in the Models thread. Put each one in a separate reply.

I propose that we get started soon with a May challenge. Let’s make it monthly for now. We can always decide to do it more often.

Does one have to be writing to comment on the poems?
