Reptiles bite our ankles.
The entry wound.
Buy tall boots, thick socks.

It won't matter. No one young
realizes how temporarily young
they are. I talk to old ladies daily

who say, "When I walk on ice
it makes me feel like an old lady."
So this is how we fool ourselves:

We are not them, this is not then,
this is not now, not happening, not real
while the evil accumulates like black mold.

Greta, you completed your set #39 in August. (Sorry, the Hall of Fame wasn't correct.) So you are on set 40 now.

Oh my, this is priceless: No one young
realizes how temporarily young
they are.

     Sooo true, eh?

I am terrified of those reptiles. I guess those are carnivorous ones. I looked up reptile teeth!

"Generally, the teeth of herbivorous species are broadly flattened with crushing surfaces. Those of most carnivorous reptiles are tapered to sharp points. Often, the teeth in the front of the mouth have recurved tips, which facilitate the puncture of prey during the strike, and reduce the chance of the prey escaping. Some snakes have fangs that deliver venom, in either the anterior of the mouth or near the temporomandibular joint (rear-fanged snakes)." Cool, huh?

Oh, I love what John said "Time in one of its many crinkly forms." I want that line!

Gotta love those old ladies who temporarily feel like old ladies as well as the clueless temporarily young.

Very nice...I can identify with this poem!  Only, wherever I walk these days, I feel ice cracking behind me...happy new year, Greta!  May it be a healthy one for you and your loved ones....best, Bob
