Gideon hadn't expected to be nervous. They were just going to go to city hall, say a couple of nice things to each other, exchange rings, and then boom. They were going to be just fine, married, and that was that. And yet...somehow, things were different. He wasn't sure how he had gotten to the point of being so nervous, but he was really, really nervous about the way that this was going to go.

What if Matty got cold feet? What if Matty took one look at him and realized that he didn't actually want to spend the rest of his life with someone that didn't really know how to handle himself in most situations? With someone who didn't know how to be flowery, or overly romantic, or anything like that. He was pretty sure that he wasn't going to be able to take it if there was some sort of runaway groom situation, but he would figure it out.

He had stayed in a hotel the night before the wedding because he didn't want to see Matty the day of, at least not until they were there, but now he felt like he was freaking out. He had gotten dressed and headed to city hall. He knew that they didn't need the suits, but he knew Matty wanted it, and he knew there was a cake waiting for them at the honeymoon suite at the inn, where he had stayed the night before...but they were going to figure it out.

But it was their turn, and he didn't look at Matty, not until they were in front of the judge, but when they did, well...Matty looked amazing, and he wasn't sure what to do about it. He took a deep breath, looking over at his partner. "Hi," he said, feeling as though all of the air was leaving his body.

Matty, too, was nervous, but extremely excited. This was the day he had been waiting for so long. He had his vows down pat finally, having spent a few days writing them and tweaking them, until he felt absolutely satisfied. He approached where Gideon was before the judge, smiling over at Gideon, feeling the same feeling Gideon was. He couldn’t breath as he stood next to him. He took out the rings and handed his own ring to Gideon, eyes resting on Gideon’s. He heard the judge begin to speak, Let’s begin with some vows. Did either of you prepare your own vows? Matty nodded, “Yes. I can go first.”

Matty reached out for Gideon’s hands, as they shook slightly, never having felt so nervous and so happy and so in love all at once. He looked at Gideon with a smile before taking a deep breath. “Gideon. I really am stunned by you. Not just today because you’re wearing a suit, but every day that we have been together. We have come so far from where we started. I feel like I don’t know how we have come this far and yet I do. I also feel like when there was something trying to tear us apart, that we’ve always brought each other back in some way, like we were meant to be. More so how we are meant to be. I recently found out a fun fact from google that there are over seven million people in the world. Even though there are so many other options, I don’t want to be anywhere else. More importantly, I don’t need to be anywhere else because you are my everything, my best friend, my lover, my partner, and now my husband. I love you.” he said as he felt tears begin to fall, smiling as he pulled out the rings and slid it onto Gideon’s wedding finger.

He didn’t know why he was crying, but it was definitely emotional for him.

Gideon felt like his breath was being taken away, just looking at the other man.

This was it. He was getting married. He had never thought this day would come, not with Matty - not with anyone. He was pretty certain, and had been for the majority of his life, that he was too closed off to ever really be able to give himself off to someone else, and that was...incredible to him, that he had been able to overcome that, to be with Matty in the way that he was. He felt nervous, like his whole world was shifting, and that surprised him. He hadn't though this part would be nerve wracking, but it wasn't until he was there, face to face with him, that he really realized what was going on.

A part of him had been worried that he would have cold feet, but standing here, he didn't. His feet were warm. Very, very warm indeed, and they only got warmer as Matty made his vows.

A part of Gideon was upset that Matty went first, because Gideon knew that his Vows would never be as good as Matty's, but he was at least going to do his best with it. He was going to say how he felt, and he hoped that it would be enough, that the other man wouldn't be upset by it. He bit his lip, smiling at his partner as Matty slid the ring onto his finger. "That was beautiful," he whispered. And it had been - it was truly a thing of beauty, standing here, face to face with someone, taking their life as a part of his, and knowing that he had gotten past so many of the things that had been between him and this moment. "I guess...that makes it my turn now?" He bit his lip, suddenly very worried that Matty wouldn't like his vows.

Matty felt a little bit less nervous after releasing his vows that he had for Gideon. He was starting to think he wanted to tell him everything he had felt for a while in that way that he had needed to get it out. He knew Gideon knew what he was talking about and that it didn’t even necessarily need explaining. Gideon and Matty were pretty good at expressing things via nonverbal expression. From the beginning, Matty had always known Gideon to be better at saying things physically. Although Matty was likely better verbally expressing things, he interpreted Gideon’s expressions well and had even learned some of his own because of Gideon. That was what he loved about Gideon, is that he also learned things from him. He heard the compliment, smiling, “Thank you.”

Matty hoped that Gideon would know that Matty would appreciate anything, no matter how small or how big his vows were. Matty was just grateful and beyond happy that Gideon was marrying him. “Yes, you don’t have anything to worry about, okay?” He looked at him, noticing that in the way he bit his lip that he was worried or was nervous. His words were meant to be comforting and encouraging. Sometimes there weren’t words for situations. Even for this moment, Matty’s vows were not fully adequate with the extent of their relationship. He loved the male more than anything and a few extra words were not going to ruin this day or even make him upset in the slightest. Matty was more than lucky to have someone who was so in love with him to dedicate their life to him and to make this huge commitment. He felt as if he could ask nothing more of Gideon than to say ‘I do’ at this point.

Matty got through it. He said his vows, he gave the rings, he said "I do." for the most part. He was done, and he hadn't run away.

Gideon knew that the most likely suspect for a runaway groom situation between the two of them was him, but he was steady. He knew how he felt, and while he was nervous about not being good enough with his vows, he knew that he wanted to marry Matty, that it was necessary for him. Once the idea had come up, it seemed like nothing else had ever made quite so much sense.

Why wouldn't he want to spend the rest of his life with the one person that had made him feel human in the best ways? The one person that made him feel like someone that could actually function in society, be likeable? Matty brought all of the best parts of Gideon, and it would be absolutely insane to give that up.

He took a deep breath, not sure if he was ready to have words come out of his mouth, and this...this was something that he was glad that only Matty (and the official) were here to hear, because this felt very, very private to him. This was how he felt about the man that he was going to spend the rest of his life with ,and that was hard to tell other people, at least it was for him. "Matty, I love you. And I know...those three words get said billions of times a day, but the fact that I can say them at all is..." he paused, trying to think of the right words. "Incredible. After...every thing I'd been through, I didn't ever think love was in the cards for me, but you believed in me, and my ability to care for you the way you cared for me, even when I had given up on myself. You put up with...god, so much of my shit just to get to this point, and I know that YOU know that in marrying me, there is going to be a whole lot more. You've saved me...in...in so many ways, and I just...I love you, and I never thought I could love anyone, but I love you." He smiled at Matty, slipping the ring on his finger. "And whatever he's gonna say next," he said, gesturing to the official. "I do."

Matty was so stunned by what Gideon was saying, cherishing every word. He felt the hairs on his arms stand up because it was so beautiful. This almost felt like he was hearing a really great song that had the same effect. He heard the minister then, With the power invested with me, I now pronounce you husband and husband. You may kiss the groom. Matty looked at Gideon, waiting for the kiss that would seal the deal. He had put everything into that kiss, having eventually needing to catch his breath. The minister spoke again I present Mr and Mr Gideon Lennox-Hans. Matty took Gideon’s hand and smiled wide, “We did it.” He then began to guide Gideon out, so excited and feeling so alive that he began to run, feeling adrenalin rush through his body. He ran to the car, “Come on.” He said, with a large smile as he looked back at Gideon.

Matty slid into the passenger side of the car, feeling so excited and happy as he looked out the window, thinking about how this would be the beginning of their marriage. He knew that they would go have the cake and enjoy a nice meal, but then have some intimate time in the bedroom. Or, they could be in an entirely different order. He was honestly too satisfied with this moment that the rest didn’t matter as much. This has been what he wanted and dreamed for a while, from the moment he had fallen in love with the other male. He couldn’t be more excited to have their last names be joined together to mark them together. Everything seemed so surreal that he didn’t have a care in the world. Everything felt like it had finally fallen into place. Nothing in this world could bring him down in this moment.

Gideon was honestly a little bit surprised by the words that came out of his own mouth. They were not as eloquent as Matty's, but they were never going to be, and for him? For him, they were pretty damn good. He was pleased with them, he felt that they properly conveyed the way that he felt for Matty, which was...a challenge for him. PUtting things like that into words had always been hard for him, and knowing that he could in that moment? Well, it had been so very special for him to let his husband know how he felt, truly, on the day of their union.

A day that Gideon had truly never thought would happen.

The rest of the ceremony, short as it was, was something of a blur to him. They were married. His name was different, he had a husband, and that? That was all something Gideon had never expected for himself. He had been so certain that he would never live that kind of life, and yet here he was, walking away from the courthouse with a husband that he loved more than he had ever known it was possible to love another person, and he was happy.

"Wait." He stopped before driving them back to their apartment, and leaned in, kissing Matty deeply, passionately. This was special. This moment was a milestone for him in more ways that he knew how to put into words, and he really hoped that Matty understood just how much he cared. "I love you," he said with a smile. "Matty Lennox-Hans." And he did. So much. It was hard for him to imagine how he could survive without this man now that he had him in his life, but fortunately, for the time being, at least, he didn't have to.

With a smile on his face, and a ring on his finger, he drove towards their apartment of a home, feeling lighter than he had ever felt in his life.
