Gideon hadn't expected to be nervous. They were just going to go to city hall, say a couple of nice things to each other, exchange rings, and then boom. They were going to be just fine, married, and that was that. And yet...somehow, things were different. He wasn't sure how he had gotten to the point of being so nervous, but he was really, really nervous about the way that this was going to go.
What if Matty got cold feet? What if Matty took one look at him and realized that he didn't actually want to spend the rest of his life with someone that didn't really know how to handle himself in most situations? With someone who didn't know how to be flowery, or overly romantic, or anything like that. He was pretty sure that he wasn't going to be able to take it if there was some sort of runaway groom situation, but he would figure it out.
He had stayed in a hotel the night before the wedding because he didn't want to see Matty the day of, at least not until they were there, but now he felt like he was freaking out. He had gotten dressed and headed to city hall. He knew that they didn't need the suits, but he knew Matty wanted it, and he knew there was a cake waiting for them at the honeymoon suite at the inn, where he had stayed the night before...but they were going to figure it out.
But it was their turn, and he didn't look at Matty, not until they were in front of the judge, but when they did, well...Matty looked amazing, and he wasn't sure what to do about it. He took a deep breath, looking over at his partner. "Hi," he said, feeling as though all of the air was leaving his body.
Matty, too, was nervous, but extremely excited. This was the day he had been waiting for so long. He had his vows down pat finally, having spent a few days writing them and tweaking them, until he felt absolutely satisfied. He approached where Gideon was before the judge, smiling over at Gideon, feeling the same feeling Gideon was. He couldn’t breath as he stood next to him. He took out the rings and handed his own ring to Gideon, eyes resting on Gideon’s. He heard the judge begin to speak, Let’s begin with some vows. Did either of you prepare your own vows? Matty nodded, “Yes. I can go first.”
Matty reached out for Gideon’s hands, as they shook slightly, never having felt so nervous and so happy and so in love all at once. He looked at Gideon with a smile before taking a deep breath. “Gideon. I really am stunned by you. Not just today because you’re wearing a suit, but every day that we have been together. We have come so far from where we started. I feel like I don’t know how we have come this far and yet I do. I also feel like when there was something trying to tear us apart, that we’ve always brought each other back in some way, like we were meant to be. More so how we are meant to be. I recently found out a fun fact from google that there are over seven million people in the world. Even though there are so many other options, I don’t want to be anywhere else. More importantly, I don’t need to be anywhere else because you are my everything, my best friend, my lover, my partner, and now my husband. I love you.” he said as he felt tears begin to fall, smiling as he pulled out the rings and slid it onto Gideon’s wedding finger.
He didn’t know why he was crying, but it was definitely emotional for him.
