It was a new year, a new adventure!

So much work to be done! There was dusting once everything was unpacked, then the washing of dishes because there may have been some packing dust. Laundry, because that was a daily thing in a home that had a couple in it and not just a single woman. Sigmund needed a bathing before the bed was made up for the night, before the slip covers were removed from the sofa and chairs. Couldn't have dirty little paws and puppy butt all over clean furniture!

A home! They had a home

    Together.

    Like, together together....

It wasn't huge but nice all the same and Shiloh was making sure to try to make it look as cozy as she could for her Boyfriend. Decor pillows, cushiony chairs. Artwork on the walls, though the more she looked at it...the more concerned she grew. What if Layton didn't like how she was decorating? What if the brightly color furniture wasn't his thing? She needed to make sure he felt comfortable there too, it was his home...with her. Not just hers!

Huffing, her hands went to her hips. Lips turned down into a frown, standing in the middle of the living area. Sigmund whining at her feet. "Maybe I should order different furniture...like..leather? Would leather be better? Something South Western? Siggy, Mommy can't make up her mind."

The Corgi whined again, one paw lifting to pat at Shiloh's cat stockings. The red head looked down at the pup, "You're right, maybe more plaid....." She gave a nod, agreeing with what her mind had interpreted as the Dog's whine.</li>

Layton was more excited then he thought possible with this new house. Finally it was something he and Shiloh shared together, something that was both of theirs. No more meeting each other at one apartment or the other, spending the night here or there, lugging clothes back and forth. It was all over. And a new chapter of their life, of their relationship was starting, and needless to say Layton was thrilled.

He had left early in the morning to make his normal rounds out at the ranch, leaving Shiloh slumbering fitfully in their bed. Their bed, together, it was still kind of hard for the man to wrap his brain around. But he knew for sure that was the best nights sleep he had in a very long time. As much as he didn't want to, work needed to be done and his attention was needed elsewhere. So he and Noa loaded up into the truck just as they did any other morning, though all day long Layton could only think about the house and Shiloh, and going home at the end of the day.

Afternoon came and Layton had planned to try and sneak home around lunch time but that idea came and went quicker than he could even realize. They hadn't had this mild of a winter in a long time and really it was the perfect opportunity to really get the business on solid footing. Even after a year there was so much work to be done and Layton was the guy in charge who had to call all the shots. Not that he minded, he had longed for a ranch of his own since he was little and he planned to do all he could to make this branch of James Cattle Company a success, to make his parents around. It was just a little more difficult out when he had other things on his mind. All he could hear was his little sister's voice in his head, teasing his about being in love. Layton couldn't help but think that Katie would approve of his relationship for once.

In the end, Layton did head for home much earlier than normal, if only to keep from going crazy. The man kicked his muddy boots off in the garage and quietly pushed through the door, No a right away sniffed out her new best buddy, Sigmund, bouncing into the living room, looking just as happy as Layton felt. He followed, the edges of his jeans dragging along the carpet, pausing only a split second, before grasping Shiloh around the waist with a wide grin. " What's this about plaid?" he asked pulling her tighter into his arms just to place a kiss to her temple.

" Are my shirts not good enough anymore?" Layton was teasing of course, the grin still pulling at his lips as he looked down to the blue plaid patterned flannel shirt he was currently wearing, one of many color options hanging in his closet.

  • She had heard the movement, the sounds of the dog and it made her smile. Glad that her and Layton's pups could get along so well, Noa was very good to Sigmund. It didn't seem as if there was any Dog jealousy there at all and Shiloh had been worried about that, Dog could get jealous...right? Well, she didn't want none of that for their babies and she made sure they were both shown affection from her.

Oh! Layton had her squealing as he grabbed her up, she knew he was home but she hadn't expected the startling greeting. The squeal died down to giggling though, her lashes closing at the kiss to her temple. Her own grin brightening her face at his tease, "I happen to love your shirts, especially the blue plaid ones." Her tone all matter of fact, their first date...she'd told him as much. That she had liked him in his blue shirt, her mind hadn't changed about since either.

Her hands lifted, smoothing over Layton's chest and the material she has grown fond of being on him. Honestly, at this point in their relationship...the thought of the man wearing anything dressy was just foreign to Shiloh. It wouldn't be Layton, this was Layton and this was how she loved him. She lifted up on her toes then, still shorter than he was in her heels and brushed her nose against his before giving him a soft kiss.

"How was the Ranch today? It was pretty outside, cold but nice and sunny." She spoke as she dropped back down and tilted her head, "Would you like me to get you anything?" She had taken on the row of house hostess, of...well, the Wife maybe. At least in the sense from like the nineteen forties, all here honey. Have a seat and put your feet up, I'll make you a cocktail and get your favorite cigar.

Not that she would offer him a cigar, eew. Her nose scrunched up a little with the thought and then she was dropping her hand so that she could ruffle Noa's fur, "Hello, pretty girl! Did you do a lot of running today?" She asked, as if the Dog could speak back. Who knew, maybe they did to her.

"I was telling Sigmund that I felt like the furniture was a bit much, that maybe I should get something a little more man friendly." She stated the, head lifting to look at her Boyfriend. "What would you suggest?"</li>

Layton was pretty sure that the conversation he had walked in on, his girlfriend and the little corgi whom was rather new to his life, was in fact not about his attire. The man couldn't really help the clothes that he wore, any more it was simple habit. Jeans, check. Shirt, check. Boots, check. It was simple. And other than a variance in color, his entire closet was pretty much the same. This was the conclusion that hit him rather hard while he was moving his boxes of clothes into their new home. And sometimes, he felt a little bad since Shiloh was a much more bold woman in terms of her attire. And sometimes he got a little worried that maybe he really was not the right person in her life, maybe he wasn't the right person for her to fall in love with, maybe after all this time her sister was right.

But . . . some smaller part.of him, some little lonely piece of the back of his mind asked him why it all mattered. And how it could possibly change when he loved her as much as he did. Layton was never good with feelings and emotions but he was a man who always trusted his gut sense, right now his gut told him that he was an asshole for thinking such stupid thoughts. Shiloh, as if able to read his mind confirmed his thoughts, noting how handsome she thought he looked, running her hands along his chest. A subtle half moan, half sigh was elicited as she leaned up and pressed her lips to his. He held her there just a moment longer, lips polling into a smile against hers. Was it possible to love someone more than this?

The man chuckled slightly, reluctant to unravel his arms from the woman's waist, " It was great actually, perfect time to get everything wrapped up before winter really sets in." His smile still lingered as set shoulders visibly relaxed. " All I need is you," he voiced with a playful boyish grin on his face. Something about this house, and living together, it all made him feel so giddy inside.

The dogs barked and bounded around the living room, playfully. Layton took a step back, hands resting on his hips as he surveyed the surrounding area. Relationships, marriages, were all about compromise and even if they weren't married ,yet, Layton was all about making Shiloh happy. " Shiloh, I think it looks great." Gr8 still plastered on his face, he could see it was bright and bold, definitely not anything he would have picked in his own but . . . it was so Shiloh. And he kind of liked living a little in her world. " I mean, I wouldn't be opposed to having a man cave or something . . " Then again, the whole ranch was practically a man cave, he could stay in a woman's world while he was home.

  • The weather had been pretty mild for an Indiana winter, it made Shiloh question whether or not it would continue that way or would they finally find themselves in the middle of a unexpected blizzard. It could happen, it had happen. However, the fridge was stocked, they had their milk and bread so even if something should keep them locked into their sweet little home they would be just fine. As he said, all they needed was each other...and the dogs.

A grin spread over her round face, staring up at him as he looked around the room. Thoughtfully, she looked around as well a moment later. Well it was horrid and if he was content with it, then she should be as well. "A man cave?" They did have the extra bedroom for any future minis that might come into their lives, but until then they could set him up a nice little space just for him. Or maybe even one of those sheds that could be constructed in the back yard? "Would you like that? I can call up the Designer and see if she can work up something nice for you, all manly like."

She giggled, leaning against him and letting her arms go around his waist so that she was clinging. She always clung to him, he made her feel safe and loved. At times, she hoped that she wasn't smothering to him. She just liked how it felt to have her arms around him or his body pressed against hers...her side. Not just pressed in that way, a more innocent way.

"I have nearly everything unpacked in the bedroom," She informed him, she had taken one of the smaller rooms to use as a large walk in closet. It was the only way to keep a majority of her things, all her shoes and dresses. So many shoes, she had to have custom shelves built to organize it all. "The bathroom is in order and the kitchen too, I spent most of the morning working on those."

Her head tilted up, looking at him before stepping away from his body. Sadly, she could feel the difference within seconds, not being directly in contact with his warm body. "Anything you want changed, please tell me. You know you aren't going to hurt my feelings, I want to make sure this is for both of us...not just me." Flashing a bright white grin, she twirled around and started for the kitchen. "I should have dinner ready in no time, I made meatloaf!" It was simple things like that, a meatloaf and some potatoes that made her happy. She adored playing this role.</li>

The man could only chuckle slightly, offering a sad shake of his head " No, no don't call the designer. Really, I'm kidding." Layton looked around the room once more before meeting Shiloh's gaze again. It's great the way it is. I love it." And really the last thing he wanted was to bother some lady Shiloh had hired to decorate and organize their new home. Maybe he would not have taken the same approach, honestly it never would have crossed his mind to hire someone to fix their new house up but then, Layton came from a totally different background than Shiloh.

She wrapped her arms around his waist, leaning heavily, it was probably the most comfortable he had felt all day, just having her right there in his arms. " Wow, you've had busy morning. Anything left I can help with?" Really he shouldn't have been so surprised, he had lived for years watching his mother take care of their house and family and that woman was always on the go. She never stopped, let alone slowed down, and probably worked harder than he, his dad, and his brothers worked out on the ranch. Somehow, it must be a woman thing, a thing Layton was not about to question.

Her head tilted up and Layton caught a quick a quick kiss with another smile before she darted off. His arms instinctively crossed over his chest at the lack of warmth as her body left his side. The woman's words echoed in the space she left behind. Of course this was for the both of them. And Layton understood that she wanted him to be just as comfortable here as she was, but there was nothing that she needed to be worried about. This house was perfect the way it was as long as she was happy.

Layton followed her slowly into the kitchen, pups following close behind. It was kind of surreal at that moment, that this was his house, this was his life, his family, his dogs, Shiloh. A grin spread across his face as she trailed around the corner. " It smells amazing. I'm just gonna go get cleaned up before dinner then." It was a short walk down the hall to the bathroom where Layton dropped his dirty farm clothes on the floor and hopped into the shower, welcomed by the warmth of steam and hot water and already able to smell dinner cooking in the kitchen. Suds of flowery scented soaps where soon erased down the drain and dried off with a fluffy brand new towel, wrapped tightly around the man's waist.
