We've gotten a lot of new names lately. I've been coming here since around 99/00 and while it was pretty much the same crowd for many years, the "names have all changed since I hung around."

It seems we still have some talented folks here, from diverse backgrounds.

So I'm curious... who are you, and what do you do?

Me? I'm a retired paintball guy, former contractor, and recent non traditional college grad. This is what I do all day...

I turn things like this:

Into things like this:
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hp ... 4743_n.jpg

I play with 2D and 3D cadd projects, fixing "engineering mistakes" and pre-building various projects on screen so they when they hit the floor (I work for a fabrication company) they actually go together.

You're turn... and don't forget the pictures!

I am a radio maintainer that works for the U.S.'s passenger rail service, in New York City.

I do work on the component level. Yes, I work on those tiny surface mount components. :=3

This is a pic of the size of the components I work with:

That led is for a home project. And yes, I'm that crazy. :=3

My hobbies include model railroading and 3D CGI.

I have been here for years. During the day I do database design for an auto parts supplier. During the evenings I read and wish I could get out in my shop.

But that just pays for my growing 2 stroke problem. I just recently got This guy in. Indian made cylinder for Puch/Tomos/Whatever else it'll fit. In this case, it's being fitted to my mechanical monstrosity of a motorized bicycle.

Did I mention my job has a great healthcare plan? I'm probably going to need it. Here's a pic of the Bollywood Hero wearing the stock chinese head as a festive hat:
Same 43MM bore, but a good six mms more stroke than stock. Oh, and nearly three times the transfer port area.

Can anyone suggest some good motorcycle armor?

Realisitcly, if a company is willing to put their name on it, it is likelu a good idea. Fieldsheer has saved my butt a couple of times.

Yup. Not much worth taking pictures of, but if you can hang it on the wall, I frame it. Pretty basic corporate-owned job, but I've done everything from your cheap diploma frames, to restretched original Dali paintings, to shadowboxing frying pans (yeah), to a folded flag that was flown over Iraq, with the owner's three bronze stars.

Did one a while back with a shot-up keffiyeh (shamagh?), with pictures around each, each with a birth and death date and rank, and a spent 7.62x54r casing. The person that had it done had served with each of those men, who had been killed by a sniper. Someone in the camp had seen motion or a flash from a rooftop from that direction after, and they sent everything the could at it. They had found the casings in his pockets and beside him.

My hobbies include... not much, lately. I'm a college student, currently trying to grind knowledge into my brain for finals. Pre-calculus algebra (failing), Logic (failing; it's not what I expected) and philosophy (passing, because the class is about BSing).

Outside of that, I run my lathe and mill (A Grizzly 10x22 and Central Machinery respectively, hoping to upgrade to a RF45 soon), play vidya games (PC, PS3, and emulators of SNES-era), play paintball (rarely), and use the aforementioned machinery to further the goals of my school's electric race team.

Plus darned near anything else even remotely related.

How does that line go? Oh yeah: "I can fix anything except the Crack Of Dawn, and that's only because I can't get the right filler rod."

Now if this economy will get out of the crapper and the phone rings...

You buy a nice computer from, say, Dell computer. Machine dies within six months. You call Dell Warranty Technical Support, spend anywhere from one to four hours on the phone talking to someone from India, and they finally come up with an idea of what's wrong...

That's where I come in.

Dell ships me the parts, tells me where to go, and I fix your computer -- or, at the very least, give my best effort to.

I can tell some very funny stories, and relate some nightmarish ones as well. It's not that bad of a job. I mean, it's better than being unemployed.

At home, I'm heavily involved with a wife, three kids, various pets, and a house constantly on the verge of breaking down.

I do, occasionally, mess around with some computer graphics and web stuff. I've got some wallpaper designs on DeviantArt at http://FleetCommander.deviantart.com -- feel free to check it out sometime.
