There was no damage to the sills either. I'm suspecting driving over a section of raised kerb, but I can't think of any in that area where it would be small enough to hit the floor and not the sills or centre.

To give you an idea for the "pie" speed bumps in that area, the mondeo's track is wide enough you can just drive over them.

Maybe they loaded enough people into it to contact the "pie" bumps at speed? (no idea if the suspension travel goes that low)

Then you'd expect to see some damage on either the sill, or the section around the exhaust, both of which are lower then the floor that was hit. There's only about 60cm wide part where it's high.. and that's the bit they hit!

Must've hit something sticking out in the road, or a boulder off-road?

That's the issue, car was found roughly 1.6 miles away from where it was taken, it had just under 3 miles on the odometer from when I parked it.
We seriously can not think how they did it, on what they did it in this area.

Could the dents be from shoving a floor jack under it and trying to lift it?

Any organic matter underneath? Rash of dead animals in roadway?

I don't think so, if you look at the photos (page 12 of the thread!) you'll see it's just the underseal coating pushed around.
Hence why it's so confusing, nothing we can think of works. Of course, part of that maybe simply because we're not thinking of something really weird that someone who is in a stolen car would do....

Possibly an accident when trying to load it up on a trailer?

Unlikely, given the number stolen that night, unless they had a fleet of 44 tonner car transporters waiting.. seriously, about 20 were taken from what I can find out.
