I'm rather amazed this thread went to four pages without anyone mentioning Sabaton.  Their songs are all about actual battles.  For example, "Primo Victoria" about the Invasion of Normandy:

I'll second the sabaton recommendation. Take a look at their songs Metal Machine, Panzer Battalion, Resist and Bite, and To Hell and Back.

ALthough Manowar is firmly in the category of "80's hair metal", but that's not necessarily a bad thing. :-)
