Gary, interesting trip. Some tips:

Go to the Military museum and the Navy Museum in Istanbul. There's also a Navy Arms Museum in Golcuk Navy Base, near Istanbul, but you need to apply there for permission.
At Gallipoli and Canakkale there must be a lot to see, especially at the Canakkale Fortress Museum, see my postings on Turkish artillery.

Tosun

Thank you for the information porvided.

Question: In 1956 NATO provided military assistance to Norway, Portugal and Turkey, made up mostly of British and Canadian coast artillery weapons. I have not been able to determine what types of weapons were supplied to Turkey. I had also heard during a meeting of the Coast Defense Study Group that sales of soon to be abandoned American coast artillery weapons were to be made to Turkey. None of the American weapons were sold.

Do you have any information as to the above programs? Were the 1956 coast artillery weapons mounted in the Dardenelles or on the Black Sea at the entrance to the Bosporous? Does Turkey maintain any coast artillery today? If not how recently was the coast artillery abandoned?

Thank you again for your help and consideration.
