I was just wondering if S.E. Hinton really said that Sodapop would die a couple weeks before he is 19 in Vietnam. Truth or fiction?? Thnx. :20:
1966/7 - Gold is invented.
1982/3 - Gold is made silver.
2004/5 - Gold is made pure silver.
2009- Stephalu becomes gold.

Yes, it's true. On the F.A.Q Sectionof the website:

Does Sodapop die in the Vietnam War? If so, how did he and how did his brothers take it?
In a special feature on the DVD The Outsiders: The Complete Novel, Rob Lowe reveals that S. E. Hinton told him that Soda dies as a result of the Vietnam War two weeks before his 19th birthday, in order to help Rob Lowe better understand his character. It's never stated or even hinted at how "his brother's took it".
