I'm doing the Princess Mononoke theme song and it has several flats I can't play. Bought the STL song book but it only shows me the fingering for b flat.

Look at our fingering charts in the Articles section? I'm sure we have a complete one at TON.

Use the Maparam fingering chart. It's the best one. STLs fingering "charts" are useless.

I transcribed mononoke hime from sheet music using Myung's (STL?) tabs, and it worked fine :)

Sharps and flats are actually the same thing. Well, C# is the same as Db.
There are two spots where this doesn't happen though. From B to C there is no B# or Cb. And from E to F there is no E# or Fb.

You should look at Myung's tabs. They show the fingerings. Just look at the tab blanks. Once you feel comfortable calling all the sharps by their alternate flat names, you can use Kissing's chart.

C# = Db
D# = Eb
F# = Gb
G# = Ab
A# = Bb

B# = C
Cb = B
E# = F
Fb = E

The best guide is Stevetomato's Enharmonic Notes Guide. You should check this one out.

My chart shows only sharps, because flats are sharps too :XD:

For instance, an A-sharp is also a B-flat..~

I think STL improved their fingering charts after much criticism, so check'em out at their blog.

Otherwise, here's Teidon's modification of Maparam's chart, which I think is excellent:

I think it's something to do with keys and chords and stuff, that you should call them flat or sharp, even though they're the same >.<
