Re: NH S-1 & 2 Cab

I received my first 3D print of a flat five piece cab. All of the details were printed successfully due to proper 3D print orientation. Some striations are visible on faces that are supposed to be smooth and flat. I suspect this is due to the current state of 3D printing in Shapeways Frosted Extreme...

Re: NH S-1 & 2 Cab

I had to work from photographs for the sides and front because I, like you Jim, could not find any drawings for them. I used Photoshop perspective crop to square things up, if not square, then scale them to match the dimensions of the back I designed from the drawing in the Shoreliner. Then I could ...

Re: NH S-1 & 2 Cab

It is certainly not simply lowering the cab roof.  I have been working from drawings and photos in Shoreliner Vol. 35 Issue 1, and other photos of New Haven Alco S1s and S2s, to make the cabs as accurate as possible while satisfying requirements for 3D printing by Shapeways in HO scale.

Re: NH S-1 & 2 Cab

Bill, I know about the rivets on the roof, but so far it has been beyond my abilities to apply rivets in an array along arcs with so many segments, so I was planning on applying Archer rivet strips to the roof after I receive them from Shapeways. I did see in your article in Shoreliner V35 #1 that t...

Re: NH S-1 & 2 Cab

I clearly stated in the product description that it was for display only and that the final product would be printed differently to improve the finish on the visible surfaces. I also offered it for sale if anyone wanted to print one.  It appears that Jim wanted to have two printed to get an early lo...

Re: NH S-1 & 2 Cab

One correction... Instead of "For the Atlas S2, I believe the back and sides should be the same as for the Proto S1, but I have not yet designed the front cab piece to mesh with the back of the Atlas cab ." it should be "For the Atlas S2, I believe the back and sides should be the same as for the Pr...

Re: NH S-1 & 2 Cab

Posting the reply I sent to Jim on Shapeways after purchasing a couple of my cabs. The cab was not quite ready, but good enough for a beta tester to try. This should answer some questions. Mike Redden Hi Jim, I was surprised to see your purchase of two cabs. I mainly put the one piece cab up as a pr...

Roger Williams model

<t>I remember seeing a model of the Roger Williams at the NE Proto meet two years ago. Rolly Osmun had built it and brought it to the meet. I remember telling him I'd never seen a model of it. I didn't take any photos and I don't remember how accurate things were, so I can't make any comments. Does ...
