Hi Folks,

I see by the latest Rapido News (#93) that our New Haven Parlors are not due to arrive until January 2018.¬† ūüė쬆 We were hoping that they would be here in time for the HUB Show at the beginning of December, and certainly for Christmas.¬† But, the delays seem to be the way most models are going these days, so we learn to live with it.¬† On the good side, it gives us more time to save up for them! ūüôā BTW, Rapido is not the only importer to have this happen.¬† I've been waiting for Athearn Amtrak SDP40F locos, which were supposed to be delivered in July of this year...and Athearn has just announced another run of them supposedly due in September of next year---and they haven't even delivered the first run yet!

So, thanks for all your reservations and  keep the faith remembering how fortunate we are that, with your Association's support, Rapido has taken on this, basically, one-railroad car.

Happy Fall everyone,
Dave ūüéÉ

Mr. Clinton and other interested in Rapido's support of both modelers of the New Haven desiring its one-railroad car and locomotives, and the NHRHTA's goal of "tell[ing] the New Haven's story and keeping its spirit alive." Yes, a possible delay of a month or so is disappointing. But, a look at the Rapido schedule showing us two HO scale items of very good news.
HO SCALE LOCOS AND ROLLING STOCK
Scale Product                         Order deadline Delivery    Current status
HO ¬† ¬† New Haven EP-5 ‚ÄúJet‚ÄĚ TBA ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬† Late 2018 In 3D design ¬† ¬†
HO     Modernized EMD FL9  TBA                  Late 2018 In 3D design
Also, the N scale had two items of New Haven Railroad hitting the scale tracks in the forseeable future.
N SCALE LOCOS AND ROLLING STOCK
Scale     Product                             Order deadline       Delivery          Current status
N 1:160 NH 8600-Series Coaches October 31, 2017   Spring 2018    First samples
N 1:160 UAC TurboTrain                February 19, 2018 Summer 2018 3D design completed
Our model New Haven Railroad in all scales still exists because of our individual modeling efforts, our efforts and desirers as modelers collectively, both the historical research and product support of the NHRHTA, and the more recent support of several vendors, most especially Rapido. We have scratch built, kitbashed, accepted 'good enough,' or simply did without the unique onesie-twosie of the New Haven's locomotive and rolling stock. I for one am very thankful of the recent wave of New Haven specific models and those that have been proposed. But, we have to also remember that proposed models hinge on current sales and pre-orders for announced items. I was really looking forward to deleivery by Accurail of the 36' double sheath boxcar in New Haven schemes, and the 36' single sheath boxcar with different ends and in New Haven schemes. I pre-ordered both at my hobby shop, but understand when Accurail only announced the upcoming 36' double sheath boxcar in New Haven schemes. Evidently not enough modelers pre-ordered enough 36' SS boxcars to justify the tooling costs of their US produced models.
My main point is, about the four items announced on the schedule by Rapido I listed above. We modelers need to get all the cars or locomotives we desire now and in the future placed as pre-orders prior to the "Order deadline" announced by Rapido! Our pocketbooks and wallets maybe a lot slimmer due to the recent number of models being released in the past few years. However, I look at it as a 'snooze you lose' proposition regarding New Haven's unique one-railroad rolling stock and locomotives. Never expect a second-run of any model, especially if there weren't enough pre-orders to justify the first-run of the model! Will N scale modelers see New Haven parlor and parlor-lounge cars from Rapido if the NH 8600-Series Coaches aren't a real big seller right out of the starting gate? Will the NHRHTA have to support that project in the same way it did the HO scale versions to ensure production? Will enough N scale modelers commit to pre-orders for parlor and parlor-lounge cars before the NHRHTA dicides to make that financial commitment with Rapido during the "In 3D design" stage? Will enough HO scale modelers pre-order all the EP-5 locomotives they ever intend on running on their current or future layouts so the EP-5 might be produced by Rapido?
I apologize for the long winded kudos for Rapido and plea for modelers to make pre-orders if future releases are to be realized. But, Rapido has the following line at the bottom of their schedule page. "The schedule is subject to change!"
Thank you Mr. Clinton for keeping us informed of the status on the Rapido parlor and parlor-lounge cars.

Just like waiting for your perfectly prepared favorite meal, the finished product is well worth the wait!
Even better, like waiting for the perfect wife. Then you have the rest of your lives to enjoy each other. We're working on 47 years!
