I was looking through some slides for information on an unrelated subject and came across this unusual slide of FB-1 0459 with a side mounted number board! The slide was dated 9/60 at Boston, MA

W-O-W John; good catch!! First time I've seen that. Glad I don't have that unit. . .I'd have to add that number board.

The unit with glass number boards 0459 was mentioned in Ken Patton's 2 part article The 400's The New Haven Alco Fa Fleet. This was in Volume 14 issue 3 and 4. The 0459 is in a photo on page 32 of issue 4 . In the article it was said it was a one time experimental test.
Kens 2 part article was one of the great efforts in the Shoreliner. Even all these years later it is still my go to reference for info on the FA fleet.

Thanks, Ron. I'll look it up in that great article. Sometimes memory fails one!

History repeats itself. This topic came up once before I remember posting something on this topic a few years ago. I found that in one of the New Haven DVDs they show what I believe was this unit(?) in a consist.
Not sure which DVD that was.
I guess what is old is new.
