Good Morning to all.I have a question that hopefully, someone may be aware of where I might possibly be lucky enough to get a solid answer to this "QUEST" or maybe if not directly, then possibly suggest a direction on which if followed, may have an answer. Several years ago, my Grandmother passed away, and in the task of clearing out her apartment, came across 2 documents that piqued my interest that might be able to allow me to fill in certain gaps that regardless of how hard that I tried, every trip thus far has led to a dead end.1 of the documents, was rather ragged and quite worn, and was missing several sections, thus it led to a starting point, however the portions that were missing,I believe that if there, may have answered the "piled up questions "rather than added more questions. The other document was of little help and what we hoped would help, was a rather bland document, that went back into the box we had found it in. The other document,by it's condition after 60 some odd years, was what we worked with and the following,is the information that was still legible. It seems to be some kind of Military document that provides his assignments here in the states from boot camp, until he shipped out for duty in the E.T.O. ONE of the questions asked on that form, was if he had any experience with another language than English,to which he answered YES.His parents were both Naturalized U.S.Citizens who had come here from ITALY. The next question was what was your occupation prior to entering the Military, and his answer was that he lived at the bottom end of Power Rd. just up from where POWER RD. AND SMITHFIELD AVE. met and he listed his occupation as a Fireman for the NEW HAVEN in PROVIDENCE/PAWTUCKET firing steam locomotives. My question is does anyone know if in fact regular seniority brds along with extra boards, were something the Railroad retained, and if a rebidding board with the changes bound to occur with a rebid within the crafts, and if so,is there a chance that they may be archived to which I would be able to provide his personal info. to try to locate the history of where and how long was he employed prior to joining the service? ANY HELP WITH THIS WOULD BE INCREDIBLE,and I know if this info. is out there somewhere the membership of this forum is the best place to start ! THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE,AND I look forward to see where this goes. BEST REGARDS ALWAYS TO ALL,PETE

If the railroad had such records, they're long since gone.  Likewise with the union.

However, all hope is not yet to be lost.  Check with the local office of the Railroad Retirement Board.  The local office in Boston, Mass. covers all of Rhode Island, so I'd write to them.
