I don’t recall any discussions on this...but during the 50’s through the late 60’s, what did the New Haven usually use for hump power?
Would have been like everything else, whatever power was available?

In the mid and late 1960s the regular Cedar Hill hump power was a pair of SW1200s coupled nose-to-nose. Here's a photo of 656 and 641 working the hump job that I took on a hazy July 6, 1966.

Just reading New Haven Railroad: The Final Decade by Scott Hartley and remembered this post. Pg 21 has a photo by Tom Wyatt of 2x SW1200s coupled nose to nose. Nearly identical photo and aspect as the one posted above. Photo caption notes EY electric switchers were common in earlier decades since the wire extended to the top of the Eastbound hump.

The NHRR April 1957 Locomotive Assignment book shows the bulk of the SW1200's assigned to cedar hill.  IIRC one was assigned to Harlem River, three to locals between there and New Haven and one on the Canal Line NH to Plainville.  The rest were at Cedar Hill.  I have seen assignments of LS1200's (only 3 at a time) and RS-1's.  I've seen pictures from back in the 40's with a pair of S2's on one of the humps - it wasn't very efficient since they couldn't mu!
