I have purchased a new Atlas NH caboose, No. 681. Can someone help with a description of the interior colors and what outfitting the inside of such cabooses had?

If I remember there was a Shoreliner article about Ne-5 cabooses that had interior shots. There were also some articles about NE-5 cabooses in the Ron Hall series of books. These were reproduced articles from Along The Lines. I can`t recall any that were about the NE-6 caboose.

If you Google "Fallen Flags.org" and follow the prompts to New Haven, there is a long and very useful list of photos from various sources that you will find of NH power and rolling stock. Included among the photos are three original NHRR drawings of NE5 and NE 6 cabooses. (Dwg nos. 24767,25411,25086) The plans, while reproduced small, can be expanded enough to see the interior layouts of both carbody styles. In addition, I have a NYNH&H Painting Diagram No., 42493, dated Aug 1955, for the class NE-6 cabooses Nos. C-660 to C-709, which contains a table of "Interior Painting". It says:
"1. Ceiling - Guard5 Grey, N.H. Serial No. 423
2. All Interior, side and end walls, windows
and cupboard doors, Guard5 Grey, N.H. Serial No.423.
3.Table and counter top, interior ladder steps and
step holes--Black Engine Enamel, N.H. Serial No. 39.
4 Inside of End doors, both ends - Red. "
That should get you started. Just remember, there was no electric lighting in the NH cabooses, so a brightly lighted interior of the cabooses isn't exactly "rivet counting" prototype. Heck, do it anyway !
