It is very trivial in the light of other things... but interesting for me nonetheless! Somehow I have managed to go a week without washing my hair. I haven't been able to do that for a long long time. perhaps my hair is settling down with the Shampoo bars?

I wash on a Sunday and tend to wash again wed (and maybe another day too!) but Friday morning came and I noticed some 'greas-ies' around the front but the length was looking great. It then occured to me that I had missed my usual Wednesday wash! I wore a headband friday and wore my hair out. I had a few compliments too. Yesterday (Saturday here in Australia) I washed the very front strands- around the ears and fringe. We had a 40th birthday party to attend last night and of course I thought about washing but the length could get away with it.....so again I wore a head band (to keep it off my face) wore it out again and received more compliments!

I will wash it today (Sunday) and am curious how this next week will be on the washing front?

I tend to only wash my hair once a week, and it does fine. My hair is very dry (even with conditioning, etc.), so it doesn't produce a lot of oil that would otherwise make it unmanagable.

And to be completely honest, (and hopefully not gross anyone out here), I just washed my hair on Friday...it was two days shy of being a full two weeks. It was behaving so nicely, easy to braid, easy to bun, easy to comb....I didn't see any need in messing that up. It didn't have any odd smells, or otherwise look raunchy, so I just left it.

I don't think I could go much longer than that, but it was an interesting experiment....

Good luck with your findings!

Firstly, I'm amazed how your hair reacted so well on skipping a wash. I bet you could get away with stretching washes, given how this spontaneous experiment turned out
Using a headband is very clever for covering up the front pieces. I have noticed it too, that those parts tend to get the oiliest. I assume it's because of frequent contact with fingers. On, and I also wanted to add that the compliments you got were totally deserved, if you ask me

Routine:
- NW/SO on the scalp, with periodical length
washes (Alverde birke-salbei shampoo for the length)
- brushing, scritching, preening and massaging daily
- occasional S&D trims
- trimming the ends whenever they start looking funny
Hair type: 2b/M/C/iii
Current length: classic+
Current goal: knee

Current routine:
~ alternating a NW/SO (no water/sebum only) routine with occasional washes. I use the techniques of NW/SO (brushing, scritching and preening) almost daily, but I do a shampoo wash every month or two.

Products and tools:
~ Alverde Birke-Salbei shampoo
~ occasionally oiling the ends with either coconut or almond oil; currently experimenting with argan oil
~ an assortment of BBBs
~ Tangle Teezer/Tangle Angel & wide-tooth comb
~ hair friendly hair toys, for putting up hair and forgetting about it

you didn't gross anyone out. At least not me (I mean, what could then be said for me?) I'm always happy to hear about great-behaving hair!

Isn't that great!

I was also interested in your experience. I've found with shampoo bars that my length just doesn't seem to need washing very often. I've been doing scalp washes every 2nd or 3rd day (just put my hair is a bun very high on my head) and just doing my length once a week. But when I do that, my length seems to be a little greasy for the first day or so which is a pain because I usually wash my hair on the weekend so that I can wear it down to church, but I don't feel like I can do that on wash day or the day after anymore. I'm toying with the idea of either changing my wash day OR (and I'll try this first) going even longer between washing my length. Perhaps I may even be able to get away with never washing my length - something I couldn't do when I used shampoo or conditioner because even with scalp washes, by the end of the week my length was looking a bit nasty.

Progress from June 2006 - January 2011

2a/M/ii
Mid-Dark brown with natural red and silver highlights; fringe/bangs.
Starting length 25"/62.5cm (BSL)
Current length 33.5" (Cut back from 38.5" February 2011 following a massive shed.)
New Goal 41.5"/105.5cm (Classic length) and all-natural hair care (almost there apart from the still regular use of hairspray - ouch!)

Current routine: Oil lightly before washing with a mix of olive, coconut, avocado and almond oils. Scalp wash every second to third day using Chagrin Valley shampoo bars. Finish with acidic rinse (1 tsp ACV or lime juice to 2 cups of water or herbal tea). Once a week use shampoo bar on length as well as scalp.
Other: Oiling when required with avocado and almond oil or shea butter; S&D when I think of it; BBB; wooden comb; Mason Pearson comb; hair sticks, Flexi-8's, Ficcare, and other hair friendly toys.
