I used to love wearing this style when my hair was above waist length.  I think it looks so elegant.  Unfortunately, it is hard for me to do this now & make it look very good, so I have to wrap the extra length into a bun on top of the roll or leave curls hanging out.  The last picture is what I call the shell bun, which is a french roll with the length wrapped from the top of the roll around my head and tucked into the bottom of the roll.

I'm gobsmacked yet again! I ask myself how do you do it!

Yes, I know the woe of the French twist. Us gals with longer hair have a hard time pulling it off. I like that style very much, but unfortunately I can't wear the real thing, and I don't know as much variations as you do. So I'll have to try and duplicate some of your ideas. I hope you don't mind, you are my great inspiration

For now, I can only do a French twist pony. I hope this counts.

I adore the french roll pony in your first picture, your hair is soooo pretty.  How do you get it to keep from coming apart at the bottom?  Do you have an elastic in?  You say I am your insipration, but you always give me new ideas.  I have never even thought of that.  It looks absolutely amazing on you!

Well, my french roll is kinda lumpy, but not bad for a first attempt. Boy, it's really hard to tuck all that hair in like that! LOL...

you are very sweet! I'm glad to be of assistance
No, I don't use a hair elastic; instead I pinned like crazy with bobby pins (in the first pic, in the other the twist is held completely with the clip). I'm not sure how much pins I used, but it held like a rock!

it's great for a first try! It's at least a thousand times better than my first take on the French twist (you really don't want to know how that looked like). Besides, this thread is great for getting style ideas. With all the variations I'm planning to swipe from Lori, I can see the French roll becoming a favorite

with my French twist pony. I bet other people also do these variations, but nonetheless, here's what I've come up with.

I made a braid out of the leftover ponytail and wound it around the twist:

I also made a bun from the pony and secured it very low:

I prefer the first version, though.
