The snow just keeps on dumping (another 18") so it seems the Summit might just keep Hyak running another week, into April 1 (or is this an April fools joke?).

Historically, that's a pretty late closing for Hyak. I think the resort is, in fact, trying to be nice to the locals. Bravo!

We'll be there both days, even if it rains every day until then, which it probably will.

Historical alpine closing days since I've been keeping records:

1999 / Feb 28
2000 / April 1 (ski down
2001 / April 2 (ski down)
2002 / March 31 (ski down)
2003 / March 29 (ski down)
2004 / March 20 (ski down)
2005 / Didn't open, no snow
2006 / April 2
2007 / March 18
2008 / April 6
2009 / Jan 7 (landslide)
2010 / no operation
2011 / April 10
2012 / April 1 (scheduled end date)

The years of the "ski down", the area shut down 2-3 weeks prior to the event, then re-opened for the special day.

I miss ski down...

The SPWG used to put this on, too bad that the Hyak community (or HPOA) couldn't come together to keep that alive.

The Snoq. Pass Women's Group had a good run but we had to end it due to new insurance standards when the new owners took over. Sure was fun with games for the kids, etc. and all of us from the group manning the lift stations for tickets and donations--we raised a lot of $ for the fire dept. Our group is in it's 20th year now--I think only 2 of us original members and if we coulc swing it we would still do the Ski Down--I could probably sell 100's of I Heart Hyak Buttons. Sure was fun!!!!!!!
