I have seen this mentioned a few times, but I am not sure where this is. Could someone pinpoint it on the map?

The Rock Chalet sat across the state highway from the Travelers Rest. It's completely gone now, just an empty gravel lot.

Here is a photo I took of it in 1999. It was torn down that summer after heavy snow damaged the back addition. The main building itself was ok but the owners wanted to build something else from what I hear. It used to also be the Greyhound Bus stop and had a museum inside upstairs.

and a photo from the 1950's. Behind is the lift Wildside and the Thunderbird Lodge up top which should give you an idea where it was located.

Jack-- a couple of nice photos there, takes me back.

Clearly, the rear addition was done at a later date, and as I recall, it was pretty much falling apart by the time it finally, oops, caught fire.

As I recall, the Wildside chairlift was put in in the 70s, though clearly the terrain was cut prior to that...?

Maybe there was a poma prior to the triple chair? I have old ski maps for Acres, Hyak and Alpental but not for the Summit (as they were all called in 'the day').

I started skiing at the Summit in 1974 and recall being thrilled when Wildside was put in. I recall this opening up "new" terrain, so I don't think there was a lift there prior. But then, the Beaver Lake chair was running too, and we all know how much RADICAL terrain that lift served. My memories are slightly vague though, I could simply be wrong.

According to:http://www.skilifts.org/old/install_na1974.htm
It apears Wildside was installed in 1974.
It also says Keechelus was installed then, so someone may be able to confirm that too.

Don't always believe what has been documented. The Summit had the Keechelus and Little Gold listed as installed the same year yet I have photo's of Little Gold installed and the old Poma still running where Keechelus went. They were done 1 or 2 years apart.

I heard from a fairly reliable source that nothing will be happening on this site this year, maybe next year though.

Site work has begun at the summit. Surveying, digging and fencing has gone up in front of the Village.
