I cleaned out the chest freezer when we moved it to the garage. We had some two year old elk meat in it that had freezer burn, and with all the other stuff on top of it, I never had time to get it out. I was going to get it out early on trash day but then dh saw a wanted ad on CL. Someone wanted freezer burned meat for their dogs. The ad seems to be a continual run. So I emailed them and a lady called. She lives in a northern burb and I'm at least an hour away. That happens EVERY time we find something on CL we'd like to get too, and we get in the car and go look at the thing, most of the time coming home empty-handed. But EVERY time it's a northern person calling about our stuff, they always complain about it being so far and want us to meet them somewhere. But I digress.

She wanted to know if I would load up the meat and meet a friend of hers at Walmart because her friend wasn't comfortable going to strangers' houses. I had been waiting for the bricklayer for 3 days and couldn't leave the house so I told her it just wouldn't work out. She kind of got upset and couldn't see why I wouldn't cooperate.

Am I the only one this happens to?

What a shock, huh? LOL! Anyway, if this is an ongoing ad, I would have expected her to ask if maybe you could do it later, when it was possible for you to get away. Not get grumpy because you wouldn't meet her demands. You have a life too.

Because I would NOT load it up and take it anywhere... I would say.. bring boxes or bags and load it yourself...especially if your giving it away free, pretty gutsy if you ask me lol... We have those kinds of adds here too... some for the wolf sanctuary and then other folks...

Free isn't good enough. It has to be free and you need to bend over backwards to give it to me.

I'm one of the ones not comfortable with going to other people's houses or having them come to mine... I've met people off CL at Starbucks, Wal-Mart, the grocery store, etc. No one yet has had a problem with that.

I think for big or unique items (like frozen food) coming to the house is not an unreasonable request.

And she met people do to the transaction, but as I recall, it was because she didn't want people at her grandmother's house.

do not go alone. A good friend of ours buys things on Craigslist several times a year. He meets them at Starbucks and dh goes along as his "wingman."

"Free, freezer burned elk meat, not for human consumption, feed your dog. Free - Must be willing to meet me between 9a-7p at WalMart on Kansas and Main Monday or Tuesday."

That way, the person who wants it knows up front the requirements they must meet to make it theirs - and you aren't left to be manipulated into being the bad guy while trying to give something away.

have a neighbor, or someone tag along, so you don't look like an easy victim.
